Position

Sr. Lead Electrical Engineer, Facilities (Sr. Manager, Facilities)

Location

Tucson, AZ – Airport Site; supportive sites in New Mexico (Southwest Region) and occasional projects in West, Central, South East, and other RTX regions.

Role Overview

Sr. Lead Electrical Engineer, Facilities will lead a team of electrical engineers and designers supporting facilities electrical design, infrastructure, and power distribution systems, and construction project management.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the facilities Electrical Engineering and design team.
  • Maintain core electrical infrastructure systems including outdoor substations, medium and low voltage power distribution systems, emergency and standby power systems, UPS, 400Hz power converters, fire alarm and protection systems, communication systems, grounding and lightning protection systems, and other specialty systems.
  • Monitor and develop short to mid‑term site electrical medium voltage power distribution and infrastructure system planning, future project development, scoping, and budgetary cost estimating.
  • Design project load sizing, coordination studies, arc flash analysis, lightning protection maintenance and studies, and construction drawings.
  • Lead electrical team for panel schedules, studies, labeling using SKM Power Tools, ETAP or equivalent, and panel sizing and designs.
  • Handle in‑house electrical metering system and electrical troubleshooting of electrical infrastructure.
  • Prepare bid documents and coordinate electrical construction for office renovations, manufacturing space expansions, lab fit‑ups, and equipment installations.
  • Support projects from design through bid cycle, construction management, and closeout, coordinating with estimating, scheduling, and building electrical system design.
  • Lead electrical maintenance and shutdown activities, reviewing practices, procedures, and processes to reduce business risk.
  • Define customer requirements and Statements of Work for all projects, and ensure complete commissioning before turnover to customers.
  • Maintain RTX and Raytheon Corporate EHS&S Standards, policies, and codes; coordinate electrical designs with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, structural, civil, IT, security).
  • Prepare diagrams, sketches, construction drawings, cost estimates, bid documents and construction administration.
  • Interface with internal and external resources such as IT, safety, security, construction trade workers, contractors, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Power Engineering, or related discipline and a minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in building electrical engineering; or an advanced degree with seven (7) years of experience.
  • U.S. citizenship; required to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance (DoD Secret).
  • Active Professional Engineering license in Arizona or ability to obtain within six months.
  • At least five (5) years in building electrical engineering with expertise in high, medium and low voltage power distribution systems, multi‑frequency ratings, grounding and bonding design, lightning protection per NFPA 780 and Air Force Explosive requirements, load calculations, industrial controls, power distribution system analysis, overcurrent coordination studies, lighting design, and general building construction knowledge.
  • At least ten (10) years of construction project management experience (customer scoping, budget monitoring, scheduling, contractor coordination, commissioning, close‑out).
  • At least ten (10) years writing technical engineering specifications, reports, and operating procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of SKM Power Tools or similar for short circuit and arc fault analysis, load flow, voltage drop, feeder, branch circuit, transformer sizing, and protective device coordination studies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with top leadership, suppliers, vendors, contractors, and internal customers.
  • Proficiency in reading, printing/plotting, and creating CAD drawings and construction documents.
  • Expert knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70, 70E, 72, 90, 101, 110 and other national, state, and local codes related to facilities design and operations.
  • Solid computer skills with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project Scheduler.
  • Knowledge of ICD‑705 physical security requirements for sensitive compartmented buildings.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance within 120 days of acceptance and start of employment with RTX.
