PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Perform laboratory tests to determine chemical and physical characteristics or composition of solid, liquid, or gaseous materials for purposes such as quality control, process control, or product development. Lead special projects assigned to the lab and ensure their completion. Maintain a positive working environment for all employees. Assist the supervisor when they are unavailable.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Complete complex tasks as a skilled specialist, including setting up, adjusting, and operating laboratory equipment such as microscopes, agitators, viscometers, chemical balance scales, spectrophotometers, and other instruments.
- Test samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
- Write test reports, prepare graphs and charts describing procedures used.
- Clean and calibrate laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Perform analysis to assess rectification quality and acceptability.
- Prepare chemical solutions according to standard formulas.
- Test raw materials for conformance and stability, aiding in process decisions.
- Oversee sample preparations, including operation of heavy and hazardous equipment.
- Add chemicals or raw materials to process solutions or product batches to meet specifications.
- Collaborate with other departments to improve product quality.
- Troubleshoot product quality issues and collect data for management decisions.
- Observe and report on technician performance and shift work to the lab supervisor.
- Conduct internal audits and inspections within the department and production lines.
- Schedule and monitor testing to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
- Uphold behavior and ethics standards, and ensure compliance with SOPs.
- Follow policies and standards, including cGMP, ISO, and safety protocols.
- Act as lab supervisor in data review and disposition when necessary.
- Represent the lab with other departments as required.
- Ensure the quality and completeness of work during assigned shifts.
- Review and disposition data produced on shift.
- Assist in updating and developing SOPs and test methods.
- Oversee and perform validation of lab instruments and complete related reports.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and interface manually with precip systems, making quick and accurate decisions.
- Make decisions based on testing results to adjust operations and maintain product conformity.
- Provide technical guidance and training to technicians, and plan and assign work.
- Determine methods and procedures for new assignments.
- May act as an informal team leader, assisting less experienced staff.
- Review compliance with the Code of Business Conduct and applicable laws and policies.
- Escalate complex issues as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area and plant.
- Follow all company policies, including attendance requirements.
- Support various projects assigned by the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS :
- Require standing and walking during a 12-hour shift, using hands and fingers, reaching, talking, hearing, and wearing PPE.
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Regularly lift/move 10-25 pounds, frequently up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic chemicals, moving mechanical parts, and moderate noise levels.
EDUCATION :
- High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree desirable; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS :
- 4-6 years of related experience.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, manuals, and write reports.
- Effective communication skills.
- Mathematical skills including probability, statistics, geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to react quickly to quality issues and solve practical problems.
- Knowledge of database, manufacturing, spreadsheet, and word processing software.
- Ability to troubleshoot analytical equipment.
- Meet vision requirements for product inspection.
