Job Description

As a Development Technician, you will work in the laboratory as a member of the automotive refinish technical team at Delaware, OH. You will support Refinish Coatings R&D and contribute to developing new products focusing on primers, sealers, and surfacers. Your responsibilities include preparing paint samples, conducting tests using the Design of Experiment (DOE) methodology from Senior Chemists, and independently leading raw materials replacement projects. This role is vital in ensuring the quality and development of our paints through testing, analysis, and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Prepare and mix paint samples according to formulations and specifications.
  • Perform tests on paint samples, including viscosity, color matching, durability, and adhesion, following SOPs.
  • Use DOE techniques for planning and executing experiments related to product development, quality control, and process improvements.
  • Analyze data and document findings in detailed technical reports.
  • Operate and maintain lab equipment, ensuring calibration and proper functioning.
  • Collaborate with chemists on new product development and formulation improvements.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to formulations and testing processes.
  • Comply with corporate policies, environmental standards, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with successful completion of algebra and chemistry.
  • 5+ years of laboratory experience.
  • Post-high school education (Associates or technical school) preferred.
  • Spray application or coatings formulation experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
