BJC is hiring for a SR Grants Specialist. This person will be responsible for the pre and post-award administration and financial management for BJC grants and contracts funded by federal and non-federal agencies, foundations and industry sponsors. This will include activities related to coordinating the review and readiness of grant and contract proposals for timely submission to sponsor, including verification and completeness of budgets and justifications, institutional assurances and certifications, and other required information; establishing and maintaining grant project award profiles from grant award issuance through grant closeout. Ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in grants and/or accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Position provides pre and post–award administration and financial management for BJC grants and contracts funded by federal and non-federal agencies, foundations and industry sponsors. Fiscal management and compliance oversight of sponsored programs are governed by generally accepted accounting principles, federal audit and regulatory guidelines (Uniform Guidance), relevant laws, sponsor award terms and conditions, and BJC institutional policies. Throughout the grant life cycle, effective communication and working relationships with internal and external research partners (including principal investigators, research and administrative support staff, leadership, collaborating partners and sponsor liaisons) are necessary to support BJC institutional compliance.

Responsibilities

  1. Pre-Award: Coordinates the review and readiness of grant and contract proposals for timely submission to sponsor, including verification and completeness of budgets and justifications, institutional assurances and certifications, and other required information. Ability to interpret, communicate and apply financial, programmatic, regulatory and administrative guidelines of funding opportunity announcements. Serves as primary liaison between principal investigators and external sponsors during proposal submission and contract negotiation.
  2. Post-Award: Establishes and maintains grant project award profile in PS Grants Module through grant closeout. Reviews and monitors compliance with contractual award terms, government guidelines, and institutional policies and procedures. Responsible for expense and budgetary management and grant revenue recognition. Collaborates with BJC Legal and consortium partners in the development and issuance of contractual arrangements supported by external funding sources. Serves as primary liaison between principal investigators and external sponsors for the management of related post-award matters. Assists in BJC grant training and development programs.
  3. Accounting: Maintains general ledger in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares journal entries; budget adjustments and any related analysis of budget vs. actual results; reconciles and analyzes general ledger accounts; prepares requests for sponsor reimbursement.
  4. Reporting: Prepares and/or coordinates the timely submission of various regulatory and sponsor reports, including interim and final financial status reports, progress/technical reports and invention statements. Assists in preparation of BJC’s federal grant audit, and other tax and cost reports or surveys.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: Oversees compliance with institutional policy and procedures, and the requirements of regulatory agencies and sponsors, including financial conflict of interest, federal effort reporting, debarment and suspension, human research protection (IRB), federal equipment management, and procurement standards.
