BellTower Consulting Group supports the full grant lifecycle for cities, counties, and colleges. We act as an extension of our clients’ grant department, or in many cases, we become their grant department. Our team secures critical funding for infrastructure, social services, law enforcement, open spaces, emergency response, and more. Our focus is helping small to medium-sized organizations obtain funding and succeed.

Summary

The Senior Grants Specialist plays a key role in helping local governments and higher education organizations secure grant funding. Working independently with minimal oversight from the CEO, this role manages our clients' grant processes, using proven grantsmanship strategies. The position involves collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and team members to develop successful proposals and support impactful projects.

Essential Functions

  1. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, funders, and stakeholders, establishing a reputation as a trusted grant expert through successful proposals that secure funding.
  2. Lead and coordinate the full-cycle grant process, including strategy, research, proposal development, readiness assessments, scheduling, writing, submission, and post-award compliance.
  3. Understand the history, structure, objectives, and needs of client organizations; engage clients to gather information for compelling proposals.
  4. Identify and research suitable grant opportunities from government and non-profit sources that align with client goals and eligibility criteria.
  5. Present recommended grant opportunities to clients and collaborate on selecting the best options to pursue.
  6. Gather data and information necessary for applications; conduct detailed research to support proposal development.
  7. Draft and review proposals to ensure clarity, compliance, and persuasiveness; tailor content to funder requirements.
  8. Track application status, follow up, and respond to queries related to submitted proposals.
  9. Support post-award management, including documentation, reporting, and addressing project delays or challenges.
  10. Stay informed on industry trends and regulations through ongoing training and networking.

Required Qualifications + Key Competencies

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of experience in full-cycle grant management for local government entities.
  • Proven success in securing municipal grants, such as infrastructure or community projects.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Grant Professional Certified (GPC), Certified Grant Management Specialist (CGMS), or CFRE preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

  • Understanding of government and foundation grant processes and compliance.
  • Proficiency with cloud services, collaboration tools, and grant databases; quick learner of new technologies.
  • Professionalism, accountability, attention to detail, excellent communication, organization, research, analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.

Working Conditions

Characteristics of the work environment and physical demands are as described, including remote work, local travel, and the need for a professional home office setup.

Schedule & Travel

  • Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm EST, with local travel as needed for meetings and research.
