Job summary

LVI Associates seeks a Senior Associate, Thermal Generation Development in Houston to advance projects from early-stage development through financing, commercialization, and execution. You will own multiple workstreams, coordinating legal, environmental, permitting, and interconnection tasks while interfacing with leadership.

This role requires 2-4+ years in energy or project development, a Bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred), and travel about 25%.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • 2-4+ years of experience in energy, power generation, infrastructure, or project development.
  • Prior experience supporting thermal generation projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of U.S. wholesale power markets, particularly PJM, MISO, and SPP.
  • Experience coordinating complex, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong commercial acumen, negotiation capabilities, and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to responsible development practices and high ethical standards.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% to support project and stakeholder engagement activities.

Responsibilities

  • Support and lead the development of multiple thermal generation projects across various stages of the development lifecycle.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, approvals, and key development milestones to ensure successful project advancement.
  • Negotiate and execute real estate agreements, including site control arrangements, easements, and land acquisition activities.
  • Coordinate environmental assessments, permitting efforts, and regulatory compliance activities at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Lead interconnection-related activities, including application submissions, study management, stakeholder coordination, and agreement execution.
  • Support commercial strategy by sourcing, evaluating, and negotiating offtake opportunities, bilateral agreements, and competitive RFP responses.
  • Partner with engineering, finance, legal, commercial, and executive teams to drive project progress and resolve development challenges.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local governments, community stakeholders, school districts, and economic development organizations.
  • Monitor market dynamics across major U.S. power markets, including PJM, MISO, and SPP, identifying opportunities and risks impacting thermal generation development.
  • Evaluate project acquisition opportunities and contribute to broader portfolio growth initiatives.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for key development workstreams while supporting Project Managers on strategic project execution.

The Senior Associate, Thermal Generation Development, will play a key role in advancing projects from early-stage development through financing, commercialization, and execution. This position offers substantial ownership, direct exposure to senior leadership, and the opportunity to work across every facet of project development within a growing power platform.
