Job summary

Capital Power seeks a seasoned engineering leader to direct the technical work for US-based thermal development projects. You will coordinate FEED milestones, manage multi-disciplinary teams, and ensure alignment with company strategy and permits. The role involves evaluating technology feasibility, supplier interfacing, and delivering robust technical documentation.

The ideal candidate has a B.S. in Engineering, a PE license, and 10+ years in thermal power.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required.
  • PE license required or obviously in process.
  • Experience with thermal power projects and FEED stage.
  • Strong understanding of project economics and costs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical and engineering work for US-based thermal development projects.
  • Support evaluating technical feasibility of new technology.
  • Coordinate with internal SMEs and external consultants to meet business needs and standards.
  • Manage and finalize project layouts and documentation for prioritization.
  • Develop and coordinate the technical scope of work with internal or external resources.
  • Assist in preparing technical RFP documents and evaluate equipment specs.
  • Recommend equipment selection and concepts to improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Support planning, estimating and scheduling of deliverables.
  • Facilitate creation of conceptual project layouts and provide inputs for approvals and permits.
  • Support due diligence on potential acquisition of in-progress projects.
  • Develop project execution and procurement plans; lead multi-discipline teams.
  • Foster relationships with customers, contractors and partners.
  • Collaborate with estimating and operations to develop capex estimates and risk assessments.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical and engineering work for Capital Power’s US based thermal development projects.
  • Support the Strategy department for evaluating technical feasibility of new technology.
  • Coordinate with internal SMEs and external consulting resources to ensure preliminary engineering deliverables meet business needs and company standards.
  • Manage and finalize project layouts and documentation for prioritization.
  • Develop and coordinate the technical scope of work, applying internal resources or leading/managing external consultants.
  • Support the preparation of technical RFP documents; including technical evaluation of project specific engineering and equipment specification.
  • Recommend equipment selection and new concepts to improve performance and optimize costs.
  • Assist in planning, estimating and scheduling of project deliverables.
  • Facilitate the creation of conceptual project layouts.
  • Provide technical inputs to other departments to facilitate project approval, permitting, business case development, construction, and operations.
  • Support due diligence on potential acquisition of in progress projects.
  • Support the development of project execution and procurement plans.
  • Direct multi-discipline teams to complete technical inputs.
  • Foster relationships with customers, contractors, and third parties.
  • Provide recommendations to the Director, Development Engineering, ensuring alignment with Capital Power’s strategy and maintaining effective relationships with key partners.
  • Collaborate with the estimating and operations groups to develop capital estimates, risk assessments, and compliance reviews for development projects and acquisitions.
  • Ensure cross-functional accountability and authority practices are strictly followed to achieve efficient deliverables.
Requirements
  • Completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE)
  • 10+ years of experience in Thermal Power Generation industry
  • Project Management experience through FEED stage gas thermal projects or demonstrated management of multi-disciplinary engineering projects
  • Familiar with technical best practices, environmental permitting, laws and regulations pertaining to power plant operations and construction
  • Technical coordination experience for gas turbine equipment procurement interfacing with supplier and contractor technical resources.
  • Previously involved in front end engineering, permitting, detailed design, construction of thermal power plants
  • Strong understanding of project economic drivers
  • Good understanding of costs involved in the operation and construction of power generation facilities
  • Knowledge of software applications for power plant performance layout and performance modeling.
