The position will serve as employment litigation counsel for the Company, actively managing employment litigation matters for a growing, complex public company. The Sr. Counsel, Employment Litigation, will manage and oversee outside counsel on litigation matters, handle attorney demand letters and federal, state, and local agency charges with minimal oversight, and work with internal and external clients to assess litigation risks and strategize mitigation both proactively and during litigation.

This position has been segmented as Hybrid, meaning there is a combination of three onsite days and the rest remote.

Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with and provide guidance to Associate General Counsel, Employment & Compliance on employment litigation matters and significant pre-litigation claims.
  2. Represent the Company in responding to demand letters and agency charges with minimal oversight.
  3. Manage outside counsel on employment litigation and proactively develop litigation strategies.
  4. Advise the Company, HR, and management on employment litigation issues and pre-litigation claims.
  5. Understand the business and industry to diagnose legal issues and propose practical, creative solutions that balance legal obligations with business needs.
  6. Communicate openly and transparently, engaging and influencing diverse teams in a collaborative environment.
  7. Approach tasks proactively and enthusiastically, working effectively with talented, demanding teams.
  8. Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills.
  9. Translate complex legal issues into clear business language and demystify legal concepts for clients at all levels.
  10. Have the confidence to challenge the status quo when appropriate and push for change.
  11. Operate with maturity and strong interpersonal skills, becoming a trusted legal advisor.
  12. Maintain unquestioned integrity and ethics in all conduct.
  13. Be self-motivated, strategic, detail-oriented, and deliver high-quality work timely, understanding the issues and business strategies.
  14. Manage multiple projects efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  15. Build rapport with team members at all levels to promote proactive legal counsel use.
  16. Perform special assignments or projects as directed by senior legal leadership.
Relationships:
  • Internal: Legal team leaders, HR, senior management, business unit leaders.
  • External: External counsel, regulatory authorities.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3-6 years of experience in employment litigation, handling single plaintiff and class actions, EEOC and state agency charges, and pre-litigation demand letters.
Education:
  • Undergraduate and law degrees from recognized institutions.
Licenses:
  • Active and in good standing with a U.S. state bar association.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • In-house counsel experience preferred.
Compensation:

Dependent on experience, education, skills, location, and other factors. Expected base salary ranges from $110,000 to $180,000, plus annual bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits including health insurance, retirement, paid time off, disability, stock purchase plan, and life insurance.
