Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Texas is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide patient care management and clerical support in an Ob/Gyn outpatient clinic. Under supervision of a physician or nurse supervisor, you will perform vital signs, EMR documentation, and assist with procedures while maintaining sterile equipment and collaborating with the RN and clinic team.

The role emphasizes patient-centered care, accurate data entry in EMR, and coordination with care resources.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• License/Certification: Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty that particular work will be performed.
• Preferred: CMA certification, Current BLS CPR, Spanish language ability, EPIC EMR experience.

Responsibilities

• Refer patients and families to resources for continuity of care and health maintenance.
• Record vital signs and document interventions in the EMR.
• Support examinations and procedures and document data in EMR.
• Provide medical assistant support to Ob/Gyn physicians as delegated.
• Ensure equipment and trays are sterilized and ready for use.
• Communicate patient data via EMR to support decision-making.

In clinical setting, the employee receives direct supervision from physician or nursing supervisor in either oral or written form. In office setting, the employee receives direct supervision from department administrator. Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions. May be stressful when working under emergency conditions. This position must supervised by a Registered Nurse.

May be stressful when working under emergency conditions. This position must supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Major/Essential Functions

• Refers patients and their families to resources that facilitate continuity of care, health promotion, and health maintenance and restoration.
• Reports data and identifies report alterations in patient responses to assist in the identification of problems and formulation of goals/ outcomes and patient-centered plans.
• Conducts or supports examinations and procedures, documenting interventions in the EMR system.
• Takes and records accurate vital signs and measurements.
• Assists in determining and collecting the physical and mental health status, needs, and preferences of patients and their families.
• Communicates patient data using EMR to support decision-making to improve patient care.
• Provides medical assistant support to Ob/Gyn physician as delegated by the physician.
• Supports the RN with ensuring all equipment used for Ob/Gyn care is functioning and operational.
• Aids the RN with monitoring all instruments and procedure trays to ensure they are appropriately sterilized and available for use.

Required Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.

License/Certification: Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty that particular work will be performed.

Preferred Qualifications

• CMA certification.
• Current BLS provider for CPR.
• Experience working with OB patients in an ambulatory setting.
• Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish.
• Experience with EPIC.
