Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, TX, seeks a senior Medical Assistant to provide patient care management in a clinic setting under physician or nursing supervision. The role may supervise other staff and is performed in office and clinical conditions, with potential stress during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Collect and document patient health information and vital signs to support quality care.
• Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures with accurate EMR documentation.
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition to support clinical decision-making.
• Prepare and maintain examination rooms and ensure equipment and supplies are ready.
• Sterilize and disinfect equipment following infection prevention standards.
• Manage clinical inventory and maintain adequate supplies.

Work is performed under usual office and clinic conditions. May be stressful when working under emergency conditions. This position must supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Major/Essential Functions

• Collect and document patient health information, including vital signs, measurements, and medical history, to support quality patient care.
• Assist providers with patient examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures while ensuring accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Monitor and report changes in patient condition to support timely clinical decision-making and care planning.
• Prepare and maintain examination and treatment rooms, ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are organized and ready for use.
• Clean, sterilize, and disinfect medical equipment and instruments in accordance with established infection prevention and safety standards.
• Manage clinical inventory and maintain adequate supplies to support efficient daily operations and patient care.

Required Qualifications

Education: A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.

License/Certification: Graduation from an approved certified program for assistants in the area of required specialty. Certification by an approved accredited certifying agency in the specialty that particular work will be performed.

Experience: A minimum of two years directly related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification.
• Experience in ambulatory care.
