Job summary

Crawford & Company seeks an experienced Casualty Claims Adjuster to work remotely across the United States. The role requires handling complex casualty claims, conducting thorough investigations, and negotiating settlements with appropriate authority.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of casualty adjuster experience and active adjuster license required.
• Strong investigation, liability analysis and negotiation skills.
• Ability to independently manage complex casualty claims.
• Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
• College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience as a claims adjuster or Crawford training if no prior experience.
• Extensive claims experience and valid driver's license for outside adjusters.
• Continuing education requirements as outlined by Crawford Educational Services.

Responsibilities

• Examines claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverages.
• Conducts on-site investigations by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining reports, inspecting damage, and comparing information with evidence.
• Sets loss reserves.
• Prepares reports required by clients and government agencies.
• Settles claims by determining liability, obtaining demands and making offers, issuing settlement checks, and pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
• Controls claims costs and may recommend litigation when appropriate.
• Represents evidence at legal proceedings and maintains compliance with regulations and service standards.
• Makes sales calls to solicit new business or maintain clients; may mentor junior adjusters.
• Participates in special projects and may work beyond normal hours or travel as needed.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of Casualty Adjuster experience
• Active Adjuster License required (any state)
• Strong investigation, liability analysis, and negotiation skills
• Ability to independently manage complex casualty claims
• Excellent communication and customer service abilities
• College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Previous experience as a claims adjuster or must have completed Crawford specified adjuster training if no experience.
• Extensive, substantive experience as a Claims Adjuster; preferred a minimum of 4 years prior claims experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
• Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions.
• Outside adjusters must have a valid driver's license.
• Must complete continuing education requirements as outlined by Crawford Educational Services.
• A variable schedule including on-call may be required. Depending on case load you may be required to work beyond normal business hours when necessary.
• Travel may be required during/outside of normal business hours when necessary.

• Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information required by client, local, state and federal government and by Crawford.
• Settles claims by determining insurance carrier's liability, client's instructions and authority levels required by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, disposing of salvage, pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
• Controls claims costs.
• Recommends litigation when appropriate.
• Presents evidence at legal proceedings, producing reports and other documents as evidence.
• Maintains expected case load.
• Maintains company reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
• Makes sales calls by calling on local businesses to solicit new business or to maintain existing clients.
• May assist and mentor junior adjusters with claims handling.
• Upholds the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
• Participates in special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested.
