Job summary

Crawford & Company is seeking a Casualty Adjuster for the Gulf South region with hybrid work options (work from home plus driving). Location preference includes New Orleans, LA, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, LA, Biloxi, Ridgeland, MS, and Little Rock, AR.

Candidates should have 2+ years of casualty adjuster experience and strong investigation, negotiation, and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience as a claims adjuster or Crawford training if no prior claims experience.
  • Extensive experience as a Claims Adjuster; 4+ years preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
  • Must be licensed as required by state/local jurisdictions.
  • Outside adjusters must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Examine claims forms, policies and endorsements to determine coverages.
  • Conduct on-site investigations by interviewing claimants and witnesses, inspecting damage.
  • Set loss reserves.
  • Prepare client/regulatory reports and government filings.
  • Settle claims by determining liability and issuing settlements.
  • Control claims costs; pursue subrogation when appropriate.
  • Present evidence at legal proceedings and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through continuing education.
  • Make sales calls to local businesses to solicit new business or maintain clients.
  • Mentor junior adjusters with claims handling.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of Casualty Adjuster experience
  • Strong investigation, liability analysis, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage claims independently and conduct field inspections
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
Responsibilities
  • Examines claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions and other records to determine coverages.
  • Conducts on-site investigations of claims by interviewing claimants and witnesses, obtaining official reports, by inspecting physical damage, and by comparing claim information with evidence.
  • Sets loss reserves.
  • Prepares reports by collecting and summarizing information required by client, local, state and federal government and by Crawford.
  • Settles claims by determining insurance carrier's liability, client's instructions and authority levels required by obtaining demands and making offers to claimants, issuing settlement checks, making filings with regulatory agencies, disposing of salvage, pursuing subrogation when appropriate.
  • Controls claims costs.
  • Recommends litigation when appropriate.
  • Presents evidence at legal proceedings, producing reports and other documents as evidence.
  • Maintains company reputation and integrity of insurance products by complying with federal and state regulations and service standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
  • Makes sales calls by calling on local businesses to solicit new business or to maintain existing clients.
  • May assist and mentor junior adjusters with claims handling.
  • Upholds the Crawford Code of Business Conduct at all times.
  • Participates in special projects or performs duties in other areas as requested.
Qualifications
  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience as a claims adjuster or must have completed Crawford specified adjuster training if no experience.
  • Extensive, substantive experience as a Claims Adjuster; preferred a minimum of 4 years prior claims experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
  • Must be licensed as required by state and local jurisdictions.
  • Outside adjusters must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must complete continuing education requirements as outlined by Crawford Educational Services.
  • A variable schedule including on-call may be required. Depending on case load you may be required to work beyond normal business hours when necessary.
  • Travel may be required during/outside of normal business hours when necessary.
