Job summary

Dahl Consulting seeks a Sr. Capital & Fixed Asset Accountant in Red Wing, MN on a hybrid contract basis (12 weeks). The role focuses on fixed assets, leases, depreciation, and related financial reporting within a manufacturing context.

The candidate will partner with finance, operations, and leadership to ensure accurate capitalization, project tracking, and timely insights. In-office collaboration will occur Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with occasional on-site meetings throughout the year.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience in public or corporate accounting with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Experience with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Direct experience with fixed asset accounting and lease accounting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee fixed asset, intangible asset, and lease accounting activities, including depreciation, reconciliations, and compliance with GAAP.
• Maintain accurate assets and lease records, ensuring proper capitalization and reporting.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations, forecasts, analyses, and management reporting for capital assets and leases.
• Collaborate with business leaders on capital planning, budgeting, and project tracking.
• Monitor capital projects from budget through completion and ensure adherence to spending plans.
• Support audits and implementation of new accounting standards and requirements.
• Lead process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve reporting.

Our client, a well-established manufacturer and retailer known for producing premium footwear and work-related products, is seeking a Sr. Capital & Fixed Asset Accountant to join its finance team. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work remotely while requiring in-office collaboration in Red Wing, Minnesota on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with occasional additional onsite meetings throughout the year. This position plays a critical role in managing the organization's capital assets, leases, and related accounting processes. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, a passion for process improvement and automation, and the ability to collaborate across multiple business functions to support strategic growth initiatives.

Job Description

The Sr. Capital & Fixed Asset Accountant is responsible for the oversight, accounting, reporting, and analysis of fixed assets, intangible assets, and lease-related activities. This role serves as a key business partner to finance, operations, project management, and leadership teams, ensuring capital investments are accurately tracked, properly accounted for, and aligned with organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage fixed asset and lease accounting activities, including transaction processing, depreciation, reconciliations, and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
• Maintain accurate fixed asset, intangible asset, and lease records, ensuring proper classification, capitalization, and financial reporting.
• Prepare monthly account reconciliations, forecasts, analyses, and management reporting related to capital assets and leases.
• Partner with business leaders to support capital planning, budgeting, forecasting, capital expenditure requests, and project tracking.
• Monitor capital projects from budget through completion, helping ensure timely execution and adherence to approved spending plans.
• Support internal and external audits, financial statement disclosures, and the implementation of new accounting requirements.
• Identify, lead, and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting accuracy.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to improve capital management processes through technology, automation, and best practices.
• Provide exceptional internal customer service while supporting evolving business needs and priorities.

Qualifications

Required

• 5-7 years of experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or a related accounting environment with increasing levels of responsibility.
• Experience with month-end close processes and financial reporting.
• Direct experience with fixed asset accounting and lease accounting.
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Experience driving process improvements and leveraging technology to automate and streamline accounting processes.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, along with experience using financial systems and ERP platforms.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
• Ability to analyze, document, and communicate complex accounting and business process issues.

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Experience supporting capital budgeting, forecasting, and project-based accounting initiatives.
• Experience partnering with project management, operations, or business leadership teams on capital investment projects.
• Advanced knowledge of accounting systems, reporting tools, and process automation technologies.
• Experience supporting audit activities and financial statement disclosures.
• Strong leadership skills with a continuous improvement mindset.
