Mathematica is seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst to design and deliver scalable BI and data solutions. You will work with Power BI and Tableau, build data models and pipelines, and provide technical leadership across projects.

The role emphasizes hands-on senior engineering, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has deep BI expertise, strong SQL skills, and experience with AWS data services.

Mathematica is looking for an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst to join the Data Solutions team to design and deliver scalable, high‑performing business intelligence and data solutions. This role combines deep expertise in Power BI and / or Tableau with strong data engineering, data modeling, and cloud capabilities to build solutions spanning data pipelines and data marts through semantic models, dashboards, reports, and visualizations. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on senior engineer who can independently solve complex data and BI challenges while providing technical leadership to project teams.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain enterprise BI and analytics solutions using Power BI and Tableau, translating business requirements into scalable, intuitive, production‑ready products.
  • Design supporting data models and data marts, including dimensional models, star/snowflake schemas, semantic models, and aggregation strategies optimized for analytics and reporting.
  • Build and maintain production data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes using SQL and, where appropriate, Python, .NET, AWS‑native services, Snowflake, or Databricks.
  • Optimize end‑to‑end BI performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks across dashboards, semantic models, queries, data models, pipelines, databases/warehouses, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Apply software engineering and DevOps practices, including version control where supported, testing and data validation, CI/CD and deployment automation where applicable, release management, monitoring, and production support.
  • Lead technical design and architecture discussions, prototypes, proofs of concept, and architecture reviews, ensuring solutions meet scalability, security, accessibility, maintainability, data quality, and cost requirements.
  • Collaborate with clients and cross‑functional teams to translate complex business and analytical needs into effective BI, data engineering, and data modeling solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship through code, dashboard, and data model reviews; establish development standards and best practices; and guide teams through complex technical challenges.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues across the BI and data stack, identify root causes, and implement solutions that improve reliability and performance.
  • Support project planning and technical solutioning by estimating effort, identifying risks and dependencies, evaluating technologies, and contributing to proposals and implementation approaches.
Required Qualifications
  • 7–10 years of experience developing production BI, analytics, data engineering, or related data solutions.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Power BI and/or Tableau, with advanced proficiency in at least one and ability to independently develop, deploy, and support complex BI solutions.
  • Advanced SQL and relational database skills, including complex queries, transformations, and performance optimization.
  • Experience designing dimensional models, star/snowflake schemas, semantic models, data marts, and aggregation strategies for BI and analytics.
  • Hands‑on experience building and troubleshooting ETL/ELT production processes and data pipelines across multiple data sources.
  • Experience with AWS data solutions, including cloud storage, databases, data integration/processing, security, and scalable architectures.
  • Ability to diagnose and optimize performance across the BI and data stack, from dashboards and queries to pipelines and data warehouses.
  • Experience with software engineering practices, including version control where supported, testing, CI/CD, release management, deployment, and production support.
  • Strong technical leadership, analytical, and communication skills, including leading technical design, mentoring developers, establishing best practices, and collaborating across technical and business teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Hands‑on experience developing data pipelines, transformation frameworks, APIs, utilities, or data processing applications usingPython and/or .NET.
  • Experience with Snowflake and/or Databricks, including data engineering, transformation, modeling, performance optimization, and analytics workloads.
  • Experience with additional BI and analytics platforms such as Looker, Qlik, Cognos, or similar technologies.
  • Experience designing and implementing cloud‑based data warehouses, lakehouses, data lakes, and analytics platforms.
  • Experience with modern data transformation and orchestration frameworks and cloud‑native data integration services.
  • Experience with data management, metadata, lineage, data governance, and data quality practices.
  • Experience working with healthcare or public‑sector data, including claims, beneficiaries, provider, enrollment, program, or quality measurement data.
  • Ability to administer Tableau server.

This position offers an anticipated base salary of $105,000- $135,000 annually. This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on individual and company performance.
