Job summary

CBRE in Beachwood, Ohio seeks a Sr. Building Engineer to maintain a safe, efficient healthcare facility. This Monday–Friday day shift role focuses on preventive maintenance and rapid troubleshooting of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life-safety systems.

You will oversee contractors, manage preventive maintenance, ensure regulatory compliance, and balance on-call duties while contributing to patient and staff comfort and safety.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of related experience; combination of experience and education considered.
  • Universal CFC certification required.
  • Additional certification in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, HVAC/refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry or engine repair.
  • Meet physical requirements to perform duties, including lifting 50 lbs or more.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work orders and estimate time and materials; maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, fire life-safety, and control systems.
  • Comply with applicable codes, regulations, and safety directives.
  • Develop an energy management program to optimize efficiency.
  • Oversee and inspect work by outside contractors; respond to inquiries.
  • Lead preventive maintenance programs and handle emergency maintenance as needed.
  • Review inspections to ensure systems meet design and environmental specs.

About the Role

Are you a seasoned Building Engineer passionate about making a tangible difference in a dynamic healthcare environment? Join our team as a Sr. Building Engineer, where you'll play a critical role in ensuring a safe, efficient, and reliable setting for patients and staff alike.

In this vital Monday-Friday day shift position, you'll be the expert overseeing and optimizing complex building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general facility operations, for a leading healthcare client. Your proactive approach to preventive maintenance and skilled troubleshooting will keep all systems running at peak performance, directly contributing to the well-being and comfort of those who rely on our facilities. While you'll participate in an on-call rotation, this role is thoughtfully structured to offer a strong work-life balance, allowing you to thrive both professionally and personally.

What You’ll Do
  • Assign work orders and estimate the time and materials needed to complete repairs. Maintain an inventory of adequate supplies and tools.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to advanced mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems. Keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned.
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
  • Develop an energy management program. Ensure all systems operate in the most efficient manner.
  • Oversee and inspect the work performed by outside contractors. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisors.
  • Direct the implementation of a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. Perform repairs and emergency maintenance as needed.
  • Review and sign off on inspections of building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure the operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by the client.
  • Apply advanced knowledge to seek and develop new, better methods for accomplishing both individual and department objectives.
  • Showcase expertise in own job discipline and in-depth knowledge of other job disciplines within the organization function.
  • Coach others to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in most or all areas within the function.
  • Impact the achievement of customer, operational, project, or service objectives across multi-discipline teams. Work is guided by functional policies which impact the design of procedures and policies.
What You’ll Need
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. Prior shift manager or supervisory experience preferred. Universal CFC certification required.
  • Additional certification in one or more of the following: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry or engine repair.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the ability to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • The innovative mentality to develop methods that go beyond existing solutions.
  • Ability to solve unique problems using standard and innovative solutions having a broad impact on the business.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Expert organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset.
  • Highly sophisticated math skills. Ability to calculate somewhat complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.

The minimum salary for the Sr. Building Maintenance Engineer position is $30.77 per hour and the maximum salary for the Sr. Building Maintenance Engineer position is $32.00 per hour. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
