Job summary

CBRE is seeking a Sr. Building Engineer to monitor complex building systems in a new manufacturing facility. You will manage asset inventory, preventive maintenance schedules, and life cycle analysis plans from ground up.

Strong BMS/BAS, Fire & Life Safety experience, and Universal EPA/CFC certification are required. The role involves leading a team, engaging vendors, and mentoring staff, with a Monday–Friday schedule and on-call rotation as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or trade school diploma required with 5–8 years of related experience.
  • Universal EPA/CFC certification required.
  • Experience with BAS & BMS preferred; additional HVAC/electrical/mechanical certifications encouraged.
  • Meet physical requirements including lifting up to 50 lbs and climbing stairs or ladders.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required for documentation and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work orders and estimate time/materials for repairs; maintain inventory.
  • Perform maintenance/repairs of mechanical, plumbing, fire, life safety, and control systems.
  • Comply with codes, regulations, and safety directives.
  • Develop and manage an energy management program to improve efficiency.
  • Oversee outside contractors and respond to client inquiries and issues.
  • Direct preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and ensure reliability.
  • Review inspections of building systems to meet design specs and environmental targets.
  • Share knowledge and mentor less experienced team members.

Job description

About the Role:

As a CBRE Sr. Building Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring complex building system operations and the performance of various areas including plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, heating, and cooling.

This job is part of the Engineering and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for providing support, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment and systems.

This individual will play a key role in the launch and ongoing success of a new manufacturing facility, including asset inventory and management, development of preventive maintenance schedules, and implementation of life cycle analysis plans.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience with Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS), Fire & Life Safety programs, vendor management, and mentoring or developing less experienced team members. Success in this role requires someone who is energized by the opportunity to help open a new facility and motivated by the unique challenges and opportunities that come with building operations from the ground up. Familiarity with IFM Hub is preferred, and a Universal HVAC certification is required.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with participation in an on-call rotation as needed. Final schedule details will be confirmed at the time of offer.

What You’ll Do:
  • Assign work orders and estimate the time and materials needed to complete repairs. Maintain an inventory of adequate supplies and tools.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to advanced mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems. Keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards as assigned.
  • Comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
  • Develop an energy management program. Ensure all systems operate in the most efficient manner.
  • Oversee and inspect the work performed by outside contractors. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisors.
  • Direct the implementation of a preventive maintenance program to ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their rated life. Perform repairs and emergency maintenance as needed.
  • Review and sign off on inspections of building systems including fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to ensure the operation of equipment is within design capabilities and achieves environmental conditions prescribed by the client.
  • Apply advanced knowledge to seek and develop new, better methods for accomplishing both individual and department objectives.
  • Showcase expertise in own job discipline and in-depth knowledge of other job disciplines within the organization function.
  • Coach others to develop in-depth knowledge and expertise in most or all areas within the function.

What You’ll Need:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma with 5-8 years of job-related experience. In lieu of a diploma, a combination of experience and education will be considered. Prior lead shift or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Universal EPA/CFC certification required.
  • Experience with BAS &BMS
  • Additional certification in one or more of the following: HVAC, electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, process controls, mechanical power transmissions, painting, plumbing, carpentry or engine repair.
  • Meet the physical requirements of this role including stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, and the
  • Carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
  • The innovative mentality to develop methods that go beyond existing solutions.
  • Ability to solve unique problems using standard and innovative solutions having a broad impact on the business.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Expert organizational skills with an advanced inquisitive mindset
  • Highly sophisticated math skills. Ability to calculate somewhat complex figures such as percentages, fractions, and other financial-related calculations.
