Job summary

Johns Hopkins University is seeking a Sr. Assistant Director, Training and Staff Development within Undergraduate Admissions.

The role balances core admissions responsibilities with leadership over training initiatives across the office and sits on the management team to drive goals and ensure academic quality and diversity in the incoming class. The position will provide leadership across office-wide training efforts and collaborate with leaders to develop and implement staff development

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible related experience.
  • Experience in staff development or training programs is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic direction for designated focus areas, including processes and policies.
  • Oversee major programs and link them to campus-wide goals.
  • Build relationships with internal and external partners to advance goals.
  • Develop tools and analysis plans to measure and improve the work in strategic areas.
  • Create staff training content and manage staff development calendars.
  • Coordinate regional recruitment strategies and manage constituent relationships.
  • Represent Johns Hopkins University Admissions at public events and information sessions.

We are seeking a Sr. Assistant Director, Training and Staff Development who will balance the core admissionofficer responsibilities of recruitment and management of aregional territory while also providing leadership over a keyprogrammatic or process area(s) across the office. The Senior Assistant Director sits on the management team andpartners with office leadership to develop goals, ensuring academicquality and diversity of perspectives in the incoming class. Thisposition will provide leadership across our office-wide traininginitiatives.

Specific Duties & Responsibilitie

The Sr. Assistant Director, Training and StaffDevelopment

  • Provides leadership over a key business area within theundergraduate admissions office: responsible for the strategicdirection, logistics, timelines, planning, and evaluation ofprocesses and policies that fall within their designated area offocus. [SM1.1]
  • Provides oversight of major programs and/processes and connectsthem to strategies in other areas of the office to work towardsinstitutional goals.
  • Builds relationships with all relevant third parties (withinUndergraduate admissions as well as across the university) tocollaborate effectively towards goals.
  • Works with the management team to develop a strategic visionfor their respective areas of focus.

Develops an evaluative structure for effective programming intheir designated area of focus

  • Work with office leadership to create tools and/or an analysisplan to analyze and improve work in their strategic areas.
  • Builds short- and long-term plans to set goals, implement newstrategies, and evaluate them over time.
  • Identify future areas for innovation/growth withintheirarea.
  • Creates any staff training content around their area offocus.
  • Manages a regional territory—reads applications, plansrecruitment strategies and initiatives, and manages constituentrelationships.
  • Represents JHU Admissions in public events and informationsessions.

Responsibilities as a Senior Assistant Director, Training andStaff Development - In particular, this position will support andoversee training and staff development

  • Partner with the leadership team to ensure the vision forofficewide staff development is executed accordingly
  • Collaborate with other managers/project leads to identify stafftraining needs
  • Create a staff development strategy focused on continuousgrowth and elevation of impact
  • Coordinate with departments and offices across campus toprovide timely presentations and information to staff
  • Maintain a year-round training calendar
  • Oversee the transition and onboarding of new staff members
  • Create surveys and other feedback mechanisms to evaluate theefficacy of staff training
  • Research and stay informed about current industry trends
  • Anticipate future training needs
Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with prospective students,parents, secondary school counselors, faculty and other universitypartners as well as the ability to represent Johns HopkinsUniversity to the public.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, independently and aspartof a team.
  • Strong event management and development skills.
  • Demonstrates the utmost level of professionalism with bothinternal and external constituents.
  • Possesses strong cultural competency and understanding ofstudent educational experiences coming from diversebackgrounds.
  • Knowledge of standard office software applications, includingMicrosoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
  • Ability to build, propose, and maintain a budget.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Five years progressively responsible related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience,and additional related experience may substitute for requirededucation beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, tothe extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas,laboratories, working with research subjects, or involvingcommunity contact requires documentation of immune status againstRubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received theTdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may includedocumentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicellavaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratorytesting. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases areordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except forthose employees who provide results of blood tests or immunizationdocumentation from their own health care providers. Anyvaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no costin our Occupational Health office.
