Job Title: SR. APP OPERATIONS ENGINEER

Labor Category: Programmer 3

Location: Remote

Job Type: Contract

Work schedule: Normal business hours Monday-Friday 40 hours/week (not including mandatory unpaid meal break after 6 hours of work).

Duration: 12 Months

Pay Rate: $70 per hour

Job Description / Justification:

We are seeking a Senior Application Operations Engineer reporting to the DevOps Applications division. This role involves supporting applications deployed to AWS, including NYC.ID, OTI CAPTCHA service, City Clerk, NYC.gov, and others, as part of the Application Modernization Initiative. Responsibilities include managing daily operational tasks such as deployments, issue triaging, creating fixes, and resolving service tickets promptly. The engineer will maintain comprehensive documentation on technical architecture, design, and operations, and communicate effectively with project managers, QA, and stakeholders. Collaboration with the Application Operations Lead will be necessary to deliver operational enhancements aligned with OTI standards, focusing on code quality and security.

SCOPE OF SERVICES

TASKS:

• Manage deployment of applications in production and non-production environments.
• Address service tickets based on priority.
• Troubleshoot application issues.
• Implement security enhancements for applications as needed.
• Utilize cloud provider tools like AWS or Azure for triaging and observability.
• Work with CI/CD and project management tools such as Azure DevOps.
• Analyze issues, define requirements, and develop solutions, including defect fixes and enhancements.
• Use source code quality and security tools for static and dynamic analysis.
• Create and update relevant documentation.
• Participate in technical reviews of configuration and code.

MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Note: Candidates without these skills will not be considered

• Minimum 8 years of experience developing and maintaining Java applications.
• Experience with Java build tools like Maven and Gradle.
• Hands-on experience with Spring MVC, Spring Boot, JPA, Hibernate, JSP, and relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL.
• Experience managing AWS services like ECS, Lambda, EC2, EFS, ELB.
• Monitoring AWS services and applications using CloudWatch or similar tools.
• Expertise with Azure DevOps, including GIT and CI/CD pipelines.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
• Self-motivated team player.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure during production outages.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash.
• Experience integrating external SaaS systems.
• Development experience with ReactJS for UI.
• Containerization skills with Docker.
• Knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
