Cloud Operations Engineer I
The Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) is looking for a Cloud Operations Engineer to join our DevOps department. The Cloud Operations Engineer is an integral member of the MiHIN team, providing day-to-day support and expertise to the department. This position supports other departments to ensure applications are deployed and maintained to a high standard. This position assists the DevOps Manager with regular reporting, monitoring, follow up and coordination of the status of team-assigned tickets from internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely responsiveness within Service Level Agreements and target turnaround times. The Cloud Operations Engineer also deploys software releases.

This is a full-time position where days and hours can vary Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PMEastern Time.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy packages, applications, and patches
- Recommends, schedules, and performs software improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases
- Utilizes working knowledge of Linux, Windows, and applications to provide technical guidance for support and implementation issues
- Manages the administration of Identity and Access Management accounts including AWS, Active Directory, remote access, etc.
- Monitor performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed; monitor logs, perform computer and network forensics
- Contributes to internal knowledge bases including best practices and company standards for deployments and maintenance
- Manage MiHIN third level tickets and issues to resolution
- Configure, document and update virtual private networking infrastructure
- Contributes to design and configuration of application interfaces including authentication and authorization technologies (e.g., OAUTH2, SAML, OIDC)
- Repair and recover from software failures; coordinate and communicate with impacted parties
- Apply OS and application patches and upgrades
- Provides architectural review and design for projects or initiatives
- Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance window activities as needed
- Mentors team members including apprentices and interns
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT or Computer Science, or 2+ years of equivalent hands-on IT experience.
- Familiarity with Cloud deployment technologies (e.g., Terraform, Serverless, CDK, Helm)
- Experience with AWS services including RDS, EC2, EKS, EBS, etc.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Experience supporting Linux and Windows operating systems
- Distributed patching and software deployment experience
- Experience with Jira Software Management or similar work management software
- Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
- Strong focus on execution and delivery with the ability to make recommendations and mitigate timeline risks
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills are required; confidence to participate in planning sessions that outline IT solutions that reach business goals
- Detailed knowledge of systems support – administration, configuration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, security, and general maintenance of cloud-based platforms
- Independently seeks and finds resources, information, knowledge, and/or tools to complete tasks as needed
- Excels at identifying, analyzing, organizing, and solving issues and problems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with CI/CD platforms (e.g. Jenkins)
- Shell scripting experience
- Experience with RDBMS or GraphDB technology
- Backup and recovery strategies and technologies
- Secure coding and application security concepts and technologies
- AWS Cloud Practitioner, SysOps Administrator, Solutions Architect Certifications
- Experience working in a HITRUST r2 organization or other similarly regulated industry
- Experience with Healthcare IT standards such as HL7v2, CCD and FHIR
Starting salary $80,0000 commensurate with experience and education.
