Job summary

The University of California - San Francisco is seeking a Sr. APeX Application Analyst who will serve as the primary support contact and expert for the APeX application. Job description

Role Overview

The Sr. APeX Application Analyst is the primary support contact and expert for the APeX application. Under the direction of the Team Lead and/or Manager, the analyst configures, builds, installations the application, coordinates issues, analyzes workflows, and documents operational specifications. They analyze new releases, build and populate databases, conduct system testing, validate conversion data, develop internal procedures, and establish change control processes. The analyst also leads projects and initiatives within the team or department.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct the planning and implementation of clinical software, hardware, operating systems, and distributed clinical information systems.
  • Perform advanced analyses of patient care workflow and processes, and design IT solutions for improved integration and outcomes.
  • Conduct in‑depth analysis and documentation of system specifications, identify process changes from upgrades and releases, and guide teams to improve quality, efficiency, and functionality.
  • Develop and manage new projects at high complexity, resolving technical challenges and team performance issues.
  • Design and deliver user training for complex clinical information system workflows and processes.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues, coordinate service and support among clinical engineering, IT, networks, departments, and external vendors.
  • Coordinate development of standard SOPs to standardize routine processes and support business unit technology.
  • Seek and implement improvements in services, consulting clinicians and incorporating feedback.
  • Realign solutions based on business and clinical needs, documenting issues and communication plans.
Department Overview

The Clinical Applications Team designs, tests, and implements clinical aspects of UCSF's Electronic Health Record and manages interoperability with third‑party systems and devices.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, or equivalent combination of experience/training.
  • PharmD degree.
  • Five years of relevant work experience.
  • Broad and/or in-depth knowledge of 1–2 clinical applications specialty areas, including design, development, implementation, user support, training, maintenance, QA, and testing.
  • Advanced problem‑resolution skills with the ability to diagnose, test, and implement solutions quickly.
  • Advanced interpersonal and training skills to support users at all technical levels.
  • Detail oriented with proven organizational skills, time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills for conveying technical information clearly.
  • Advanced analytical skills for designing and executing tests, analyzing performance data, and producing reports.
  • Ability to work with senior staff and managers as a technical resource and advisor on functionality, efficiency, cost and policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Epic Willow Application Certification.
  • Advanced organizational and project management skills; ability to lead a team and deliver projects on schedule.
  • Academic Medical Center experience with 5+ years of Epic experience.
Certification Requirement

Uncertified candidates must obtain certification within six months of hire.
