Job summary

Summitbsa seeks an enthusiastic instructor to lead range safety, wildlife management, conservation and hunter education at the Crafton Sportsman Complex. You will mentor participants and deliver engaging instruction to diverse groups in a dynamic environment.

You will operate an indoor simulation range, coach firearm techniques, and ensure safety while maintaining a clean, well-organized work area. The role requires adaptability and teamwork within SBR leadership guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age 18+.
  • Knowledge in firearms and archery preferred (training provided).
  • Knowledge of hunting laws, wildlife agencies, and conservation preferred (training provided).
  • Proficient with MS Office presentation software and comfortable using MS Teams.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct at the Crafton Sportsman Complex on firearm safety, wildlife management, conservation and hunter education.
  • Operate indoor simulation range and provide coaching for firearm techniques.
  • Present and teach to groups of 20–40 people and clearly transfer knowledge.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down the Skills Center facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all guests.
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by SBR leadership.
  • Abide by policies and procedures in the SBR staff handbook.

Job description

Position Overview

Provide high quality instruction, leadership, and mentorship to participants in the Crafton Sportsman Complex program to provide participants with knowledge, skills, and attitudes related to Range and Target Activities, Firearm Safety, Wildlife Management, Conservation and Hunter Education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instruct at the Crafton Sportsman Complex, including firearm safety, wildlife management, conservation and hunter education.
  • Operate indoor simulation range and provide coaching for firearm techniques
  • Present and teach in front of 20-40 people and clearly transfer knowledge
  • Assist in the set up and takedown of the Skills Center facilities and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe environment for all guests
  • Model the Scout Oath and Law in daily interactions
  • Maintain a clean, organized, inspected, neat, and safe work area
  • Perform additional duties assigned by SBR leadership
  • Abide by policies and procedures outlined in the SBR staff handbook
Qualifications
  • Minimum age: 18+
  • Preferred: Knowledge in the use of firearms and experience in archery (training provided)
  • Preferred: Knowledge and/or experience in hunting, hunting laws, conservation, wildlife agencies (training provided)
  • Computer literacy and ability to use MS Office presentation software
  • Willing to become a registered Scouting America member (includes background screening)
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Teams for daily work-related communication
Physical & Practical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and hike up to 8 hours daily and ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds
  • Complete the Annual Health and Medical Record, including height/weight guidelines
  • Housing: 10'x12' platform tent in Staff Camp | Uniform: Summit Staff Uniform | Work Hours: 45-55
