Job summary

Birchtree Center is seeking a Speech Language Pathology Assistant to support its Speech and Language program for students with autism. The role involves helping with assessments, data collection, and implementing individualized communication plans under ASHA guidelines.

The position requires NH licensure as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Experience with AAC is preferred.

Qualifications

• Degree or higher in Communication Sciences and Disorders from an accredited program
• ASHA certification as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant
• NH licensure as SLP Assistant
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Experience with autism preferred
• Strong computer literacy
• Excellent written and spoken communication
• Familiarity with AAC devices and apps

Responsibilities

• Support evaluation and progress monitoring to aid IEP development and implementation
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to tailor educational programs
• Assist the SLP with formal and informal assessments
• Integrate communication programming within ABA framework
• Consult with classroom staff to meet student outcomes
• Provide education and in-services for staff and parents
• Complete documentation, progress reports and billing logs
• Create data sheets and graphs for speech programming and updates
• Attend IEPs, parent conferences and meetings as required

Job description

Birchtree supports individuals with autism and other diverse abilities by providing personalized education and outreach programs that promote inclusion, independence, and holistic growth. The Speech Language Pathology Assistant helps ensure that The Birchtree Center's Speech and Language program maintains a standard of excellence in special education, particularly in the context of students' individualized educational programming. The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant performs duties in accordance with ASHA guidelines to support the implementation of the Speech and Language program in our school.

Responsibilities:

• Supports the evaluation and progress monitoring of students as needed to facilitate the development of IEPs and implementation of individualized communication programs
• Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., Special Educators, SLPs, OTs, BCBAs, etc.) to promote success, a just-right challenge, and individual, student-specific educational programs
• Assists the Speech Language Pathologist with the administration of formal and informal assessments
• Integrates communication programming within the framework of Applied Behavior Analysis
• Consults with classroom staff to achieve student outcomes, problem solve challenges, and ensure best practice
• Assists the Speech Language Pathologist in providing continuing education and in-services for school personnel and parents related to the field of Speech Language Pathology
• Completes service delivery documentation, quarterly progress reports, and monthly billing logs
• Creates data sheets and graphs for all speech and language programming, as well as scheduled consultation with classroom staff to train and educate on new communication programming or programming updates
• Attends scheduled meetings (e.g., IEP meetings, parent conferences, management meetings, etc.) as required
• Creates materials and visual supports to help facilitate communication and communication programs
• Assists the Speech Language Pathologist in maintaining students' communication devices: software kept up to date, programming of multiple systems (e.g., iPads, dedicated communication devices), updating and customization of vocabulary files, backup of all vocabulary files.

Qualifications:

• Associate degree (or higher) in Communication Sciences and Disorders from an accredited speech language therapy professional program
• American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant
• Licensed as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant through the State of New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure & Certification (OLPC)
• Ability to work autonomously and as an effective team member
• Experience in teaching individuals with autism preferred
• Basic computer literacy
• Excellent communication skills (written and spoken)
• Fluency with a variety of AAC devices and communication applications

To perform essential functions of the job, must be physically capable of standing, stretching, bending, walking, running, and lifting/transporting a minimum of 50 lbs. Must be capable of moving and thinking quickly under stressful situations and able to function in a fast-paced environment.
