To provide direct and consultative speech and language therapy services to children and adolescent with autism, including evaluation and treatment of linguistic and cognitive communication disorders and development processes. Essential Core Responsibilities
Clinical Service Delivery
  • Conduct comprehensive speech-language screenings, evaluations, and diagnostic assessments in accordance with program, school, and regulatory guidelines
  • Develop, implement, and oversee individualized treatment plans aligned with IEP goals and assessment findings
  • Provide direct speech-language therapy services (up to 20 hours per week) using individual, group, and consultative service models
  • Monitor student progress, adjust interventions, and determine ongoing therapy needs
IEP & Team Collaboration
  • Develop, review, and document IEP goals, service recommendations, and progress reports
  • Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary teams and attend meetings as requested
  • Consult with teachers, administrators, and related service providers regarding student progress and scheduling
  • Communicate effectively with families and share relevant updates with educational teams
Supervision & Leadership
  • Provide clinical supervision to Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs), including required onsite observations and performance evaluations
  • Maintain supervision documentation and ensure compliance with certification, licensure, and organizational standards
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete all assessment reports, therapy notes, and progress documentation within established school, Department of Education, and agency timelines
  • Maintain service delivery schedules, track make-up services, and ensure accurate record keeping
  • Follow all organizational policies and professional standards for speech-language therapy services
Departmental & Administrative Duties
  • Participate in departmental planning, projects, research, supervision, and staff meetings
  • Assist with data collection and reporting as assigned
  • Maintain therapy spaces and identify needed materials and supplies
Continuing Education
  • Attends required in-service training
  • Attends necessary amount of continued education requirements for licensure
Requirements
Experience Requirements
  • Demonstrated specialized understanding of motor, cognitive, psychosocial and communicative aspects of autism spectrum disorders
  • Ability to utilize knowledge in student evaluation, treatment planning and participation and consultation as part of larger treatment team
  • Knowledge of applied behavior analysis as demonstrated through experience
  • Demonstrated ability to use supportive communication techniques based on student needs
  • Experience in pediatric speech and language services
  • Ability to independently carry caseload including scheduling, evaluation, treating, consulting and adhering to policies
Education Requirements
  • Master’s degree in speech and language pathology from ASHA accredited program required
  • Licensure as speech and language pathologist from Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech Pathology
  • ASHA certification for at least 9 months
Essential Physical Requirements
  • Lift 50 pounds (and keep back straight while doing so)
  • Bend at all joints fluently
  • Move in and out of and maintain a kneeling position for up to five minutes
  • Reach in all directions
  • Grasp using both hands
  • Move quickly in both confined and open spaces to avoid safety issues
  • Run in order to retrieve an individual who is moving quickly away from staff
  • Maintain balance while lowering to a half squat position
