Qualifications

  • Current North Carolina SLP license or eligibility.
  • CCC-SLP preferred; CFY encouraged if applicable.
  • Experience in skilled nursing or rehabilitation is preferred but not required.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to evaluate, diagnose, and treat residents with speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping older adults achieve their highest level of independence through individualized, evidence-based therapy.

Key Responsibilities
Resident Evaluation & Treatment
  • Perform comprehensive evaluations of speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, and swallowing disorders.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on physician referrals, clinical findings, and resident goals.
  • Provide skilled speech-language pathology services through individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Evaluate and treat dysphagia using evidence-based assessment and intervention techniques.
  • Monitor resident progress and adjust treatment plans to maximize functional outcomes.
Collaboration & Care Coordination
  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, dietitians, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate comprehensive resident care.
  • Participate in care conferences, discharge planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Educate residents, families, and caregivers on communication strategies, swallowing precautions, adaptive techniques, and home exercise programs.
  • Provide training and guidance to nursing staff regarding safe swallowing practices and communication support.
Documentation & Compliance
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation, including evaluations, progress notes, care plans, recertifications, and discharge summaries.
  • Maintain compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, state, and federal regulations, as well as facility policies and professional standards.
  • Ensure documentation supports quality care and appropriate reimbursement.
Professional Excellence
  • Stay current with advances in speech-language pathology through continuing education and professional development.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, in-services, and facility education programs.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative rehabilitation environment focused on exceptional resident outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
  • Current North Carolina Speech-Language Pathologist license (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA preferred; Clinical Fellows (CFY) are encouraged to apply if applicable.
  • Experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or long-term care is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of dysphagia management, cognitive-communication therapy, and geriatric rehabilitation.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to caring for older adults.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to assist residents with mobility and positioning during therapy sessions.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and sit for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and respond to residents' communication, cognitive, and swallowing needs.
