Speech Language Pathologist (.8 FTE)
Terms of Employment

Full‑time, 187 days (Depending on start date). Salary is based on education and experience and will be prorated per our Certified Salary Schedule not to exceed letter I ($50,500 to $94,145). The District provides its employees with a comprehensive benefits program including medical, life, and dental insurance. Three medical plans are offered, of which the District pays the full premium for employees, and a fourth option is a buy‑up plan for which the district pays the majority of the premium. The District pays the full employee premium for dental insurance and life insurance, contributes to PERA on each employee’s behalf, and offers additional retirement savings options as well as optional supplemental insurance. Employees also receive paid time off. Worker’s compensation and unemployment insurance are provided in accordance with State law.

Purpose

The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. The role responds to the individual needs and abilities of students by working closely with staff and administration.

Essential Functions
  • Assist in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
  • Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students.
  • Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school, district, and community.
  • Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
  • Support the philosophy and vision of the cooperative and school district.
General Responsibilities
  • Participate in child find evaluations and screenings as necessary.
  • Conduct speech, language, and hearing screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for school‑based speech language services.
  • Participate as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and reevaluation process.
  • Participate in the development of student IEPs.
  • Monitor student progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
  • Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and others concerning the needs of students and special services that are available.
  • Assist teachers in the development and implementation of classroom accommodations, curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
  • Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
  • Cooperate with agencies serving students and their families.
  • Provide therapy, follow‑up, and/or consultation based on student IEPs.
  • Motivate students through effective communication and evaluative feedback.
  • Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
  • Plan and implement transitional programs for students.
  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  • Supervise and train staff members as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques.
  • Evaluate the need for and obtain assistive technology and other devices for students.
  • Provide training, support and guidance for the use of assistive technology in the educational setting.
  • Provide bilingual evaluation and assessments as needed district wide.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Special Education Director and or the building Administrator.

  • If material is not legally protected but is of a confidential or sensitive nature, great care shall be taken to ensure that only those with a “need to know” are allowed access to the material.
  • Staff members shall handle all employee, student, and district records in accordance with applicable district policies.
  • Staff members who intentionally disclose student records, other confidential student information and/or district information may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
Other Qualifications
  • May be required to sit, stand, run and/or kneel.
  • Must be able to lift at least 20 pounds.
Qualifications Profile
Certification/License
  • State Certification to practice as evidenced by current CDE licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education
  • Masters from an accredited college or university in related field.
  • Graduation from an accredited program of Speech Language Pathology.
Experience
  • Successful prior experience working as a Speech Language Pathologist, preferably in an educational or other pediatric practice setting.
