Sylvania is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to support districtwide students in 2026-2027. The role involves collaboration with administrators, teachers, and special education staff to provide comprehensive communication services and related evaluations under IDEA.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement service-delivery model for identified students based on assessment results.

  • Knowledge of evaluation principles for communication and swallowing disorders (birth-21).
  • Familiar with child-find processes and procedures.
  • Manage and troubleshoot hearing equipment.

JOB TITLE: Speech-Language Pathologist
LOCATION: Districtwide
WORK YEAR: 2026-2027
WORK SCHEDULE: 7.5 hours per day; workdays align with the 2026-2027 School Calendar
WORK STATUS: Full-time, Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting administrators, teachers, and special education staff in providing supports and services to special education students.

The school speech-language pathologist is knowledgeable about basic human communication, including swallowing processes and biological, neurological, acoustic, psychological, developmental, linguistic, and cultural bases and shall incorporate into planning for students: analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of information related to basic human communication and its processes; utilization of knowledge about normal development, in the identification of delayed/disordered speech and language skills; and information about the interrelated and interdependent components of communication, as related to their impact on the learner across environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plan and implement an appropriate service-delivery model for each identified student, based on assessment results
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws, rules, policies, guidelines, and/or procedures, and relevant case law
  • Be accountable, through the collection of timely and appropriate data, and the maintaining of accurate and timely records
  • Identify and gain access to sources of, and synthesize and translate common principles of, research and documented evidence-based and proven best practices, as related to the planning for, and the implementation of, intervention plans and strategies
  • Adapt general and special education curriculum to meet the requirements of individual students, with regard to Colorado content standards and access skills
  • Work collaboratively with students, general education teachers, school personnel, community, and families, to provide integrated communication services
  • Provide culturally- and developmentally-appropriate curriculum-relevant intervention, based on identified needs, and proven effective research and practice
  • Develop setting-appropriate intervention plans, with measurable and achievable goals, to meet identified children's/students' need(s)
  • Maintain a safe and effective learning environment, conducive to student achievement
  • Implement current state-of-the-art technology to maximize students' communication skills
  • Model and demonstrate the use of augmentative/alternative/assistive technology
  • Perform comprehensive, educationally relevant evaluations for students suspected of or at risk of a hearing disability and/or communication disorder, including articulation, fluency, voice, and language communication, as defined under IDEA eligibility guidelines.
  • Participate in the review of data with other members of an IEP team to inform appropriate instruction and interventions based on student-identified needs. This may include providing consultation and support for students who qualify for a 504 and/or an IEP, as defined under IDEA eligibility guidelines.
  • Case manage students identified with hearing impairments only for the purposes of the IEP process.
  • Collaborate with school, parents, teachers, special support personnel, and relevant community agencies and professionals to ensure delivery of appropriate services to promote academic success.
  • Knowledgeable about the principles and methods of evaluation of communication, prevention of communication, and swallowing disorders for children/students (birth-21)
  • Familiar with child find processes and procedures.

  • Prefer applicants with experience working in a school setting, but not required.
  • Ability to speak both English and Spanish preferred.
EDUCATION:
  • Master's degree in Communication Disorders or Speech-Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certification
  • Successfully passed a national state-approved speech-language pathologist specialty-area test; have successfully completed a practicum or internship
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATION:

Must hold a Special Services license issued by CDE.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

SALARY:

Placement on Licensed salary schedule based upon previous teaching experience and highest degree and college credits earned after student teaching was completed.
