Job Title

Speech Language Pathologist

Reports To

Special Education Director

Primary Purpose

Provide therapy and instructional strategies for students who exhibit communication disorders in the areas of language, articulation, fluency, voice, cognition, and pragmatics that adversely affect educational success.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology
  • ASHA Certification
  • Texas Licensure
  • Working knowledge of federal laws, state guidelines, and local district policies
  • Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, instructional and behavioral modifications, and accommodations
  • Thorough knowledge of communication disorders including all areas of language, phonological processes, articulation, voice, and fluency
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Practicum or previous employment in a public school setting desired but not required
Responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility for the organization and operation of work within the area of supporting students and staff working with students eligible for special education and related services following federal program guidelines as directed by the charter and specified in 34 Code of Federal Regulations §300.208 (a)(1).
  • Review each referral prior to evaluation to ensure the student records are complete, including parent permission, hearing and vision screening, etc. Request outside data as needed.
  • Discuss the student’s performance with the classroom teacher.
  • Secure services of the charter’s multi-disciplinary team as needed.
  • Facilitate case management through involvement with consultation with parents and teachers, observations, and IEPs.
  • Evaluate the language, articulation, voice, fluency, intellectual, academic, emotional, behavioral, and or adaptive behavioral function of referred students.
  • Administer, score, and interpret appropriate evaluation instruments based on specific needs of the individual students.
  • Collaborate with the ARDC to determine eligibility of students for speech language therapy services.
  • Develop Full Individual Evaluation Reports (FIE) and draft IEPs including goals and objectives.
  • Observe federal and state timelines for evaluations and written evaluation reports.
  • Schedule, invite participants, conduct and participate in ARDC meetings.
  • Implement ARDC accepted therapy goals and objectives.
  • Conduct conferences with parents, students, and teachers when needed to discuss concerns regarding the student’s therapy.
  • Assess progress at appropriate intervals and adjust therapy to allow for speech/language development.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to develop therapy schedules and provide ongoing support for students in the classroom.
  • Keep accurate records of all contacts with parents and professionals.
  • Maintain up to date/current records in eSped on each student regarding referral, testing, goals/objectives, and progress.
  • Participate in campus evaluation team as needed.
  • Serve on campus committees as requested and appropriate.
  • Keep informed of current issues in evaluation and treatment of communication disorders.
  • Take the initiative to develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment.
  • Attend and maintain CEU’s as required for Clinical Certificate of Confidence and Texas Licensure.
  • Abide by the ASHA Code of Ethics.
  • Attend scheduled department meetings and staff development.
  • Follow all rules and policies of the Texas Leadership Charter Academy and follow directives from Superiors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise SLP Assistants and CFY for newly graduated SLPs as assigned.
Physical and Mental Job Requirements

  • Frequent charter‑wide and occasional statewide travel.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions.
