Job summary

DALLAS INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT in Dallas, TX is seeking a SPED Intensive Support Teacher Assistant for grades K-5. You will assist the classroom teacher with instructional materials, student supervision, and behavioral support, including assistive care for students with physical disabilities and personal needs.

The role requires assisting with records, preparing reports, and supporting substitutes, while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent plus one of: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or pass an academic assessment.
• Paraprofessional certificate required from State Board of Certification.
• Completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or six months of related experience preferred.
• General knowledge of child growth/development and behavior.
• Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills to meet goals.
• Initiative and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Effective communication skills in oral and written form.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Flexibility to cope with a rapidly changing environment.
• Willingness to stay current with professional developments.

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare space for student needs.
• Assist with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
• Assist teacher with administrative records and required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities including transfers and positioning.
• Provide personal care support as needed (feeding, bathroom needs, hygiene).
• Assist with classroom curriculum and activities.
• Help manage student behavior, including crisis intervention and safety as needed.
• Support individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and exercises.
• Supervise students during the day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground.
• Keep teacher informed of student needs or problems and maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development, faculty meetings and events as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned; maintain regular and punctual attendance.
