Qualifications

• Accredited Senior High School Diploma or equivalent, plus one of the following: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, pass an academic assessment.
• Holds Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification.
• Completed training program for teacher assistants or six months of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge of child growth and behavior and ability to work with diverse groups.
• Willingness to follow verbal and written instructions and to adapt to changes.

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare according to student needs.
• Assist with inventory and maintenance of equipment.
• Keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities including transferring and positioning.
• Support personal care needs including feeding, bathroom and hygiene.
• Assist with classroom curriculum and manage student behavior.
• Intervene in crisis situations and restrain disruptive behavior when needed.
• Support learning by working with individuals or small groups to develop motor skills.
• Supervise students throughout the day including lunchroom, bus and playground.
