Job summary

Dallas Independent School District is seeking an SPED Inclusion Teacher Assistant for grades 6-8. You will support the teacher with instructional materials, manage classroom logistics, and assist students with disabilities such as mobility and personal care needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency) plus one: Associate degree, 48 college credit hours, or pass an academic assessment.
• Paraprofessional certificate from State Board of Certification is required.
• Completion of a specific training program for teacher assistants or ~6 months of relevant work experience preferred.
• Knowledge of child growth/development and behavior characteristics.
• Ability to work with people from diverse ethnic groups.
• Good organizational and interpersonal skills to meet job goals.
• Initiative and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with children with disabilities.
• Flexibility to cope with a rapidly changing environment.
• Desire to stay current with developments in the profession.

Responsibilities

• Help teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom and prepare spaces according to student needs.
• Assist with inventory and care/maintenance of equipment.
• Assist teacher with administrative records and required reports.
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Assist students with physical disabilities, including transfers and positioning.
• Assist with personal care needs (feeding, bathroom, hygiene).
• Assist with classroom curriculum.
• Supervise students during the day (lunchroom, bus, playground).
• Keep teacher informed of student needs or problems.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Participate in staff development, meetings and events.
• Perform other duties as assigned and maintain regular attendance.
