Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle, WA is seeking a Specimen Processing Services Specialist I to perform blood specimen processing and venipuncture. This 1.0 FTE, fully onsite role is based at the South Lake Union campus and supports efficient patient flow.

Responsibilities include specimen preparation, processing, QA participation, and coverage of shifts as needed. Requires basic medical terminology knowledge and color vision ability; phlebotomy training is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or the equivalent.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs.
• Proficient in the use of email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment.
• Must be able to differentiate between colors and pass a standardized color vision screen to perform this role.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing of blood specimens.
• Performs venipuncture phlebotomy on patients, donors, research participants and employees where required.
• Able to learn computer skills in a timely manner.
• Processes specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, and dispensing specimens to proper lab processing and sendout sites.
• Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs and projects.
• Records variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required.
• Responsible for receiving patients at the Alliance Laboratory for blood draw appointments and scheduling walk-in appointments.
• May be asked to cover alternative shifts or weekends as needed per staffing.
• Has the ability to work under pressure and adjust to changing workloads.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Meets attendance and punctuality expectations.
