Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, based in Seattle, is seeking a Specimen Processing Services Specialist I. The role includes specimen processing and venipuncture phlebotomy for patients and staff, with on-site 1.0 FTE at our South Lake Union Campus.

You will support transfusion-related duties and participate in quality programs. The position requires a high school diploma, basic medical terminology knowledge, color vision, lifting ability, data entry and email skills.

Qualifications

• Required: High school graduation and knowledge of basic medical terminology.
• Ability to lift 25 lbs and differentiate colors with a vision screen.
• Proficiency in email and data entry in a Windows environment.
• Preferred: phlebotomy training and WA MA/Phlebotomist certification.
• Preferred: EPIC/Cadence and specimen handling experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen processing of blood specimens.
• Performs venipuncture phlebotomy on patients, donors, research participants and employees.
• Learn computer skills in a timely manner.
• Process specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, and dispensing.
• Participate in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs.
• Record variances in Patient Safety Net as required.
• Receive patients at the Alliance Laboratory for blood draws and scheduling.
• May cover alternative shifts or weekends per staffing needs.
• Work under pressure and adapt to changing workloads; problem solve.
