Job summary

UW Health in Madison is seeking a Lab Assistant – Clinical Labs to perform phlebotomy and specimen processing, while ensuring patient identification and accurate labeling. This role also includes specimen receiving, instrument maintenance, and clerical duties in the lab information system.

You will work closely with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff and patients, contributing to accurate testing and timely results in a busy clinical setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • Completion of accredited Phlebotomy Training program and clinical rotation

Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized and specialized phlebotomy procedures on patients of all ages and ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling.
  • Complete specimen receiving and processing, load them onto instruments or perform the kit testing, and associated instrument maintenance (temperatures, monitoring reagents) and clerical duties (filing, mailing, faxing).
  • Patient check-in and order entry of laboratory tests in the laboratory information system.
  • Interact daily with pathologists, physicians, technologists, clinical staff, nursing unit personnel, and patients.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time, 100% FTE position. Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. No weekends or holidays required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.

We are seeking a Lab Assistant – Clinical Labs to:

  • Perform standardized and specialized phlebotomy procedures on patients of all ages and ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Required)
  • Completion of accredited Phlebotomy Training program and clinical rotation
Work Experience
  • Six months of Phlebotomy and Specimen Processing Experience (Required)
  • One year of experience in phlebotomy and processing (Preferred)
Licenses & Certifications
  • Phlebotomist (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) certification (American Society for Clinical Pathology) or equivalent (Preferred)
