Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is hiring a Specialty Prescription Coordinator to manage prescription entry, insurance verification, prior authorizations and coordination of financial assistance. The role serves as a patient and provider resource, handling new and refill deliveries and collecting essential clinical information.

The ideal candidate will have pharmacy-related experience, Texas licensure as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist Intern, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years experience in specialty, retail, mail order, or hospital pharmacy.
• Two (2) years experience in insurance verification, benefits, and eligibility investigations.
• Attention to detail in communicating with patients and healthcare providers over the phone.
• Ability to manage multiple daily tasks independently.
• Ability to work cross-functionally to improve quality and service.
• Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical terminology and patient assistance programs.
• Demonstrated customer service skills with strong interpersonal communication.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience in specialty pharmacy or pharmacy benefit management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enter prescriptions and process claims for new/refill prescriptions.
• Clarify prescription orders with pharmacist and/or clinician as appropriate.
• Conduct insurance benefit investigation to determine eligibility and coverage.
• Troubleshoot billing rejections and rebill claims with carriers.
• Submit and follow up on prior authorization requests and approvals.
• Process payments and assist patients with pharmacy financial assistance forms.
• Schedule delivery of medications and track packages for timely delivery.
• Collect clinical information essential for patient management and notify staff of recalls.
• Coordinate with pharmacy team to ensure timely dispensing; report issues.
• Attend staff meetings and contribute to special projects; maintain documentation.
• Maintain productivity and quality; comply with HIPAA and department policies.
