Applications Engineer III

Job Summary

Southwire's applications engineering, plays a critical role in servicing the high volume of residential and commercial customers and the rapid growth of industrial, OEM, and utility end users in North America and internationally. The CableTechSupportTM Services was established with the mission statement of Re3TM; to Respond, Rectify, and Restore the electrical systems using Reinforced, Resilient, and Reliable Solutions. This large engineering team provides the industry's best-in-class consultation and technical support. We are looking for a subject matter expert with in-depth experience in commercial, industrial and utility markets to be able to develop novel and value-added wire and cable innovations, and initiate field service solutions to increase safety, eliminate pain points, and minimize total project cost. The responsibilities include aligning engineering activities with company objectives, driving the spec in the commercial, industrial and utility market segments. This subject matter expert will interface directly with contractors and electricians and lead innovation efforts while partnering with agents, distributors, inside & outside sales, operation, and product management to deliver value-adding solutions to electricians, general & electrical contractors, engineers, commercial project owners, and EPCs. The individual must have commercial experience and be proficient in ideating, designing, and implementing commercial-scale service solutions.

Key Responsibilities

* Power innovation to offer the best technical and value-added product and system solutions for commercial, industrial and utility markets.
* Identify customer and user's technical pain points during the life cycle and translate them into new engineering solutions or innovations for products, tools, software, and field support including patented products. Summarize product features, functionalities, code compliance, and long-term performance and provide ideas into the Stage-Gate process.
* Review complex electrical wiring designs in AC or DC, including accessories and connectivity with the overall system, to provide the best-in-class product selection, installation procedures, innovative hands-on solutions, and field testing.
* Initiate and launch novel service solutions such as Southwire's cable repair kits, emergency nitrogen purging services, labor-saving estimators, calculator tools, and GO vs. NO-GO testing recommendations.
* Utilize extensive application knowledge of the electrical power system and Voice of the Customer to create smart web-based calculators, engineering whitepapers, and technical reference documents on southwire.com/services/cabletech-support-services.
* Market CableTechSupportTM Services' by generating CableTechTalks customer training videos, authoring Re3TM engineering whitepapers, publishing magazine articles, hosting live webinars, and serving as keynote speakers at trade shows and conferences.
* Develop sustainable solutions that drive efficiencies in the field to accelerate growth and help Southwire gain market share.
* Serve as an in-house applications engineering SME to build organizational capability internally and externally

Education, Experience, and Skills

Required


Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's
Specialized Degree: Engineering
Years of Experience: 10+
Field of Expertise: Research and development, application support and/or product engineering experience in the Wire and Cable, Power, Utility, Manufacturing, or Electrical Industry is required. Hands-on experience with cable installation, splice & terminations, and connectors is a must.

Minimum Education Level: Master's
Specialized Degree: Engineering
Years of Experience: 15+
Preferred Field of Expertise: Extensive field experience in commercial, industrial or utility installations is highly desirable. Research and development background desirable.
