Placements24 is seeking a Specialist Electrical Maintenance Engineer for our mining client in Welkom. The role combines on-site oversight with remote planning, focusing on reliability of electrical infrastructure across heavy industrial operations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in electrical maintenance within mining or heavy industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of mining electrical equipment including crushers, conveyors, winders and ventilation systems.
• Proficiency with troubleshooting AC/DC motors, transformers, switchgear and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement electrical maintenance plans and schedules for plant equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical faults and ensure rapid resolution to minimize production impact.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair high- and low-voltage systems, motors, generators, and control panels.
• Supervise maintenance technicians, ensuring safety compliance and quality standards.
• Manage spare parts inventory and prioritize critical components for maintenance activities.
• Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities in reliability.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards and company policies.
• Prepare maintenance reports, work orders and equipment history logs.

Our client, a major player in the mining sector, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Specialist Electrical Maintenance Engineer to join their team in Welkom . This role is essential for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of electrical infrastructure and equipment within their extensive mining operations. You will be responsible for planning, executing, and supervising maintenance activities, performing complex diagnostics, and implementing preventative strategies to minimize downtime. The position involves a hybrid work arrangement, requiring you to be on-site for critical tasks and team collaborations while also allowing for remote planning and reporting. We are looking for an individual with extensive hands-on experience in electrical maintenance within heavy industrial environments, particularly mining.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive electrical maintenance plans and schedules for all plant equipment and systems.
• Conduct in-depth troubleshooting and diagnostics of electrical faults and failures, ensuring rapid resolution to minimize production impact.
• Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective actions on high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, motors, generators, and control panels.
• Supervise and guide a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and work quality standards.
• Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components for maintenance activities.
• Analyze maintenance data to identify trends, root causes of failures, and areas for improvement in electrical system reliability.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Prepare detailed maintenance reports, work orders, and equipment history logs.
• Collaborate with production and engineering teams to optimize equipment performance and implement upgrades.

Requirements

• National Diploma or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current).
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in electrical maintenance, specifically within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Strong knowledge of mining electrical equipment, including crushers, conveyors, winders, and ventilation systems.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting AC/DC motors, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
• Valid Electrician Trade Test certificate.
• Working knowledge of relevant safety regulations and standards in the mining industry.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to diagnostics.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model, balancing on-site responsibilities in Welkom with remote administrative tasks.
