Placements24 is partnering with a major mining client to recruit a Specialist Electrical Maintenance Engineer for Welkom. The role combines hands-on maintenance leadership with remote planning and reporting, requiring extensive experience in heavy industrial electrical systems and safety-compliant practices.

You will develop maintenance plans, troubleshoot complex faults, and supervise technicians while coordinating with production and engineering teams for optimal equipment performance.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current).
• 8+ years of electrical maintenance experience in mining/heavy industry.
• Strong knowledge of mining electrical equipment (crushers, conveyors, winders, ventilation).
• Proficiency in troubleshooting AC/DC motors, transformers, switchgear, and control systems.
• Experience with PLCs and VSDs.
• Valid Electrician Trade Test certificate.
• Knowledge of mining safety regulations.
• Analytical and problem-solving with methodical diagnostics.
• Leadership and team management capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement electrical maintenance plans and schedules for all plant equipment and systems.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults to minimize production impact.
• Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and corrective actions on HV/LV systems, motors, generators, and control panels.
• Supervise maintenance technicians with safety and quality adherence.
• Manage spare parts inventory and ensure availability of critical components.

You will be responsible for planning, executing, and supervising maintenance activities, performing complex diagnostics, and implementing preventative strategies to minimize downtime. The position involves a hybrid work arrangement, requiring you to be on-site for critical tasks and team collaborations while also allowing for remote planning and reporting. We are looking for an individual with extensive hands-on experience in electrical maintenance within heavy industrial environments, particularly mining.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive electrical maintenance plans and schedules for all plant equipment and systems.
• Conduct in-depth troubleshooting and diagnostics of electrical faults and failures, ensuring rapid resolution to minimize production impact.

Requirements

• Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
• Valid Electrician Trade Test certificate.
