About the Role

Our client, a major force in the mining sector, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Technician to ensure the reliability and performance of electrical systems on critical mining equipment. This key role is based in Welkom, Free State , and requires a deep understanding of the unique electrical challenges and demands of underground and surface mining operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electrical systems, including power distribution, motor controls, PLCs, and instrumentation on heavy-duty mining machinery. This position is crucial for maintaining safety, efficiency, and productivity within our Welkom operations. We are looking for a dedicated professional with a strong electrical background and a commitment to excellence in a challenging industrial environment within the Free State .

Key Responsibilities

Install, inspect, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components on a variety of mining equipment, including drills, loaders, haul trucks, and processing machinery. Diagnose electrical faults using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques, and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime. Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals to guide troubleshooting and repair processes. Perform routine preventive maintenance on electrical systems to ensure optimal functionality and safety. Work with high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems, including power generation, distribution, and control circuits. Ensure all electrical work complies with mine safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment status. Collaborate with mechanical technicians and operations personnel to resolve complex equipment issues. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electrical technicians. Stay abreast of new electrical technologies and safety practices relevant to the mining industry.

Requirements

Extensive experience as an Electrical Technician, with a significant focus on mining or heavy industrial equipment. Trade qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with relevant certifications. Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting and repairing complex electrical systems, including PLCs, VFDs, and motor control centers. Proficiency in reading and understanding electrical schematics and technical drawings. Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards and procedures, particularly within a mining environment. Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively in a demanding setting. Excellent problem-solving, diagnostic, and analytical skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Willingness to work shifts, including overtime and be on standby for emergency repairs in Welkom, Free State . Physical ability to perform tasks in challenging mining environments.
