Job summary

Harper College seeks an AED support coordinator to provide evening services for adult education and to guide students through recruitment, orientation, enrollment, registration, assessment and technology support.

You will collaborate with departments and community agencies to help students overcome barriers, maintain accurate records, administer assessments, and coordinate with instructors across instructional sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field required.
  • Minimum two years of experience in adult education, student services, advising, counseling, or related field.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Provides continuity of services to the diverse AED studentcommunity during evening hours. Provides academic guidance to AEDstudents through recruitment, orientation, enrollment,registration, assessment and technology support. Provides programinformation and referrals to Harper College departments andcommunity agencies to help students address barriers to learning.Supports student data collection, class logistics and communicationwith students and instructors.

ABOUT THE TEAM
RESPONSIBILITIES
Characteristic Duties:
  • Assists in the recruitment and retention of AED students.
  • Attends outreach and recruitment events at Harper and in thecommunity as needed. Represents the department and provides programinformation to prospective students.
  • Assists with the development of recruitment strategies andprepares/distributes flyers, brochures, and communications asnecessary.
  • Assists with beginning-of-semester preparation and welcomesinstructors and students at all instructional sites. Providesevening coverage and support at off-site locations.
  • Supports departmental initiatives, including College ExperienceDay, that promote student persistence, engagement, and successfulprogram completion. Participates in the AED general and on-goingstudent registration/intake, assessment and placementprocesses.
  • Maintains accurate student records and documentation in accordancewith departmental and state reporting requirements
  • Administers standardized Adult Education assessments, includingpre- and post-tests, during evening sessions.
  • Collaborates with Assessment and Placement Specialist to monitorstudent assessment (pre-and post-tests) on an ongoing basis.
  • Collaborates with AED team for continuity of services across hoursand sites. Communicates with inquiries received in evening hoursthrough email and telephone.
  • Provides evening students with technology support and assistsinstructors and students in accessing digital instructionalmaterials. Coordinates with the Technical Support Assistant toensure technology support is available across instructionalsites.
  • Collaborates with the Instruction and Learning Specialist tomaintain files of community agencies and serve as a resource forstudent referrals.
  • Provides holistic student support by addressing academic andnon-academic needs and referring students to appropriate HarperCollege departments, advisors, counselors, the Adult CareerTransitions Navigator, or community resources.
  • Assists students in locating and using educational, career, andvocational information.
  • Refers special needs students to the Instruction and LearningSpecialist for assistance. Meets with students who need to betransitioned to other learning options.
  • Serves as a liaison between the AED Department, other HarperDepartments, and community agencies to coordinate student supportservices.
  • Serves on committees and task forces in the college and communityto provide improved student services and increased networking asneeded.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Work is primarily indoors and sedentary in nature. The regular workschedule includes afternoon and evening hours, with travel toinstructional sites as needed. Equipment/Tools Used:

Utilized standard office equipment, including computers, to performthe duties of the job.

Supervision:

Under general supervision of the AED Director. Receivesinstructions as needed for specific assignments. Collaborates with AED staff and faculty, and College community.
