Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare in Brownsville announces a Special Procedure Technician role. The position supports physicians with evaluating patients, recording vitals, monitoring medication compatibilities, and aiding radiation protection.

Responsibilities include labeling radiographs, developing film, collating X‑rays, and performing laboratory QA activities. Requirements include Basic Life Support, an Associate Degree, and ARRT‑R Radiography or RT Radiologic Technologist credentials, with NBRC CRT

Qualifications

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Associate degree or higher in radiologic technology or related field.
  • ARRT‑R Radiography or RT Radiologic Technologist/Radiographer certification.
  • NBRC‑CRT Certification or RRT/RCP license as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Completes assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and etiquette in interactions with physicians, managers, coworkers, and patients.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication skills.
  • Demonstrates competency in radiation protection to patients and staff per safety standards.
  • Identifies anatomical orientation on images and ensures proper identification.
  • Assesses patient condition and ensures safety with restraints/tools under staff guidance.
  • Demonstrates proper contrast injection procedures.
  • Demonstrates PICC line insertions/removal procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in special lab technique and setup.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in angiographic protocols, digital imaging, vascular interventional procedures, image production, catheters and related tools, patient education, informed consent, and patient monitoring.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in intracranial and extracranial angiography, neurologic embolization, thrombolysis, and angioplasty.

Education

Associate Degree
ARRT‑R Radiography or RT Radiologic Technologist/Radiographer
NBRC‑CRT Certified Respiratory Therapist or RRT/RCP‑State Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner

Job description

Job Summary

Special Procedure Technicians assist physicians with evaluating patients, recording vital signs, monitoring medication incompatibilities and allergies, and supporting radiation protection. They label radiographs, develop film, collate X‑rays, and perform laboratory quality‑assurance activities.

Responsibilities
  • Completes assignments in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrates professional behavior and etiquette in all interactions with physicians, managers, coworkers, and patients.
  • Demonstrates appropriate communication skills.
  • Demonstrates competency in radiation protection to the patient and staff in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper identification on all images.
  • Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper use of restraints/support devices under staff guidance.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure in contrast injection.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure for PICC line insertions/removal.
  • Demonstrates competency in proper special lab technique and set up.
  • Demonstrates competency in special operations: A) Processes B) Angiographic Protocols C) Digital Imaging D) Vascular Interventional Procedures E) Image Production F) Catheters, guide wires, needles G) Patient Education H) Informed Consent I) Patient Assessment/Monitoring J) Medications K) Sterile Technique.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in intracranial angiography.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in extracranial angiography.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in neurologic embolization.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in thrombolysis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge in angioplasty.
Qualifications
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support.

  • NBRC‑CRT Certified Respiratory Therapist or RRT/RCP‑State Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner.
No Travel Required
