Special Police Officers (SPO's) will provide protective services for the patients, families, staff, and property of Children's National Health System (CNHS). As directed, CNHS SPO's respond to emergency situations while enforcing the established hospital policies and in accordance with the laws of the District of Columbia. Department personnel must maintain a tactful and courteous demeanor in the exercising of duties. Will perform access control using state of the art technology to ensure the safety of patients. Will perform security patrols of the entire campus to proactively identify risks to the hospital. Frequently works with medical professionals to advance patient safety.
Minimum Education
High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
2 years Work experience as a Special Police Officer (Preferred)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Valid US Driver's license required.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
Must be able to climb stairs in response to emergency situations.
Must be able to wear department issued body armor.
Must be able to work outdoors if necessary.
Ability to handle volatile situations under stressful conditions.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
Must possess excellent customer service skills.
Knowledge of the criminal code in Washington, DC.
Experience working as an emergency responder (law enforcement, fire/rescue, military).
Knowledge of HIPAA rules and restrictions.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Special Police Officer commission from the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department.
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (Required).
