Responsibilities
  1. Patrols and inspects buildings and adjacent grounds. Responds to calls for service and takes appropriate action.
  2. Screens lists of authorized residents against all persons entering and exiting buildings at secured and controlled entrances and exits.
  3. Contacts residents by telephone or intercom to ensure that visitors are acceptable; logs all visitors with date, time, and destination; logs out departures.
  4. Monitors safety devices such as fire alarm systems, elevators, and security equipment; responds to emergencies when activated.
  5. Notifies the Property Management Office of floods, fires, and other hazardous conditions; informs the Authority’s Command Center if the Property Management Office is closed.
  6. Notifies the Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services of all life-threatening emergencies.
  7. Makes necessary arrests following the District of Columbia Code; contacts law enforcement agencies for transportation and assistance.
  8. Conducts package and vehicle inspections and limited searches of individuals suspected of illegal activity.
  9. Directs traffic, controls parking entrances, and issues or requests traffic violation notices.
  10. Enforces truancy laws.
  11. Receives, issues, and accounts for all keys to Authority buildings, offices, and locked gates.
  12. Maintains a 24-hour log of all criminal or unusual activity, incidents, or actions requiring attention.
  13. Certifies that Authority property is safe at the end of each duty; notes any issues on the duty log for the next shift.
  14. Performs other related duties as assigned.
