Job summary

The Head Start program in Oneonta, AL seeks a Classroom Aide to support the classroom and teaching staff for the program year. This temporary position involves assisting with the needs of children and collaborating with families while ensuring safety and adherence to guidelines.

High school diploma required. May substitute for absences; no benefits. The role requires lifting up to 75 pounds and clear background checks; training will be provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• May serve as substitute in absence of classroom, food service, or custodial staff, depending on qualifications.
• Must not be a parent of child in the classroom unless approved by Content Team Leader.

Responsibilities

• Support the special needs of the classroom.
• Care for young children with varying mental, physical or social challenges that require constant attention.
• Support classroom staff to achieve program outcomes for all children.
• Meet all Performance Standard expectations in dealing with children (Discipline, care, instruction).
• Must be able to lift children up to 75 pounds.
• Must be physically able to move about the classroom/playground and play areas as needed.
• Must be able to communicate with parents and staff concerning the child’s needs and progress in a positive manner.
• Observe and share information on behavior, progress, and challenges of children.
• Monitor the activity of children to ensure safety and well being at all times.
• Attend area meetings and trainings as assigned.
• Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
