This is a union position.

The Special Events Assistant

is responsible for assisting the Special Events Associates and Supervisors with aspects of event operations, such as performing as ushers at Music Hall events and coat checking during a Music Hall Foyer event.The Special Event Supervisors schedule this staff in advance of their assigned special event.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Completion of high school required.Minimum of one year of customer service experience, working with the public required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent customer service, strong verbal communication skills and ability to follow direction and work with a staff team required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The ability to lift and transport boxes, such as programs for performances (up to 15 pounds), stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time.
  • Varied schedule includes holidays, weekends and evenings.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Prior to a performance or event, review seating in the Music Hall, especially for your assigned area.
  • Ensure your section has enough programs and assist in stuffing flyers and brochures, if needed.Be prepared to assist patrons.
  • Make sure the duties for each event are clear and actively request clarification from the event supervisor if needed.
  • During the performance, collect any rope that was used to section off areas before the performance begins in the Music Hall.Close all doors at the start of the performance and seat late guests as your event supervisor instructs.Ushers must remain at their section throughout a performance.Be attentive to guests who may need to leave during the performance, opening and closing doors quietly.
  • Accurately count tickets, as requested by the event supervisor to produce the audience attendance.
  • During intermissions, opens doors and provide direction and assistance to guests.Walk around the Music Hall Foyer to see that guests are comfortable and do not need assistance.Make sure no food or beverages are brought back to the Music Hall once the performance continues.Open all doors for guests and close them when the performance starts.
  • After the performance, open all doors and assist patrons as they exit.Be patience with guests and do not rush them.After the Music Hall is empty, check for lost items (return to the event supervisor) and pick up any programs or trash remaining in the assigned areas.
  • Be polite, professional, providing excellent customer service to all guests.
  • Displays courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with the public.Projects the image and attitude of The Carnegie Museums.
