The City of MurphyParks & Recreation Departmentseeks to add aSpecial Events Assistantto its dynamic team!Under direct supervision, the Special Events Assistant supports the planning, coordinating, and execution of city-sponsored recreation & community events. This position performs a variety of administrative, logistical, and on-site tasks to assist the Special Events Manager in delivering high-quality community experiences. Duties include coordinating with vendors, sponsors, and volunteers, supporting overall event logistics, and helping ensure compliance with related processes and procedures.
Schedule Commitment
This is a full-time, non-exempt position that works a schedule of Monday-Friday 8am-5pm and requires evening and weekend availability as required.

· Coordinates the planning, preparation, and day-of coordination for City of Murphy Parks and Recreation events.
· Assists the Special Events Manager with all other community events throughout the year.
· Supports event logistics such as setup and breakdown coordination, equipment preparation, supply inventory/distribution, signage, and site layout.
· Collects and processes event registration and vendor applications for participation in special events, ensuring all documentation is complete and submitted on time.
· Supports ongoing communication with vendors, performers, sponsors, and community partners, including follow-ups, confirmations, and event-day coordination
· Assists in the coordination of event timelines, task lists, and staff/volunteer assignments.
· Responsible for managing volunteers and coordinating volunteer logistics for events, including outreach, communication, scheduling, setup, and on-site support to ensure successful events.
· Provides on-site support during events including vendor management, registration, crowd assistance, information distribution, and activity facilitation.
· Tracks and organizes event supplies and equipment; assists with inventory and restocking as needed.
· Serves as a point of contact for public inquiries related to special events; provides friendly and professional customer service.
· Assists with creating post-event reports, surveys, and basic data collection (attendance, feedback, photos, etc.).
· Provides administrative support including filing, printing, communications, and tracking invoices or payments as directed.
· Provides front desk customer service at the Murphy Community Center as needed; may assist patrons with facility reservations, program registration, membership signups, and general inquiries.
· Maintains composure and professionalism while continuing to execute their duties, without direction, during live events and briefings.
· Travels to attend meetings, conferences and training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required
One year of experience working with the public for recreation events
Valid State of Texas class C driver’s license
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with CivicRec software
Canva or other design software
Volunteer management experience related to events
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform physical activities to include kneeling, bending, twisting, dragging, pushing, pulling and lifting up to 50 pounds of various recreational and athletic equipment
