The City of Grapevine Texas is seeking an Event Assistant to assist in event setup, provide excellent customer service, and operate audio visual equipment at various venues. Ideal candidates should have strong communication skills, the ability to work flexible hours, and meet physical demands of the job.

Job description

Assist in the set-up and tear down of events at the Grapevine Convention & Palace Arts Event Centers along with other Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) venues. Assists Event Coordinators and clients as needed.

1. Ensures a memorable experience to all customers by delivering the highest level of customer service.

2. Cleans and maintains event facilities.

3. Answers phones, receive monies and aid clients as needed.

4. Assists Food & Beverage Coordinator as needed.

5. Operates various audio visual equipment.

6. Works concession stand when assigned, accepting monies in credit card or cash form.

7.Performs duties of an usher directing guests to there assigned seats

8. Sells tickets to live shows or movie tickets from the box office window.

9. Will work and monitor events at different locations solo from time to time.

10. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

11. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

12. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• Ability to work well with people.

• Must have good oral communication skills and be able to demonstrate excellent customer service.

• Ability to work flexible schedules as needed for weekends, evenings, holidays, special events and programs.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Ability to use iPad and perform basic math functions.

• Must be able to lift 45 lbs. and work inside and outside in all kinds of weather as required.

• Must have the physical ability to set up and tear down tables/chairs, partitions, along with cleaning of all facilities.

• Must have good communication and interpersonal skills, tact, patience and courtesy.

• Must enjoy working with the public in hospitality atmosphere.

• Must have reliable transportation.

• Must be able to work for long hours and stand for extended periods of time.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age 18.

Knowledge of audio visual equipment and food and beverage experience preferred.

Hotel and supervisory experience preferred.

Must be willing to work irregular schedule.

Must have or be able to obtain a food handler’s certification within 30 days of hire date or promotion and maintain during employment.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check.

Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and a functional assessment screening (Level 1).

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is rarely exposed to disagreeable environmental factors. There will be occasional exposure to outdoor weather elements as the position requires working outdoors during CVB sponsored events throughout the normal course of the year.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 44 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. This job requires the ability to work in an office environment where the noise level is usually moderate.
