Job summary

YES Prep is seeking a Special Education Teaching Assistant to support teachers working with students with diverse needs across a 10-month schedule in Houston, Texas. The role involves one-on-one support, behavior management, data tracking aligned to IEP goals, and tailoring lessons to individual needs while maintaining a safe classroom environment.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, 30 college credits, and an Educational Aide certificate or willingness to obtain TEA

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 30 semester hours college or post-secondary education credit
• Current Educational Aide certification, OR willingness to acquire the Educational Aide Certification from the TEA
• Interest in working one-on-one with a student with significant needs, including medical needs
• Ability to physically assist students with self-help, mobility, academic, and behavioral skills
• Belief in and commitment to the mission and core value of YES Prep Public Schools
• Openness to giving and receiving frequent feedback
• Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
• Ability to work urgently in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment

Responsibilities

• Assist Special Education and General Education Teachers with supervision of students in all instructional settings
• Assist with behavior management techniques by modeling and reinforcing desired behaviors
• Maintain data as identified by teachers, IEP goals, and Behavior Intervention Plans
• Tailor lessons to meet individual student needs
• Support lesson plans by practicing and reinforcing concepts
• Assist students in performing self-help and academic skills
• Provide one-to-one full-time support for a student with significant needs
• Assist with administration and scoring of tests and assignments
• Implement accommodations and/or modifications
• Adapt activities to meet classroom objectives
• Monitor students during transitions inside and outside the classroom
• Provide personal care services for students as needed
• Perform additional duties as assigned
