Job description

Special Education Resource Teacher - 1.0 FTE

Effective Date of Employment: Beginning of the 2025-26 school year

Job Summary:
  1. Teach curriculum of Independent School District 196.
  2. Develop and demonstrate culturally responsive practices that lead to equitable outcomes for all students, particularly those over-represented in special education.
  3. Support students with emotional regulation difficulties proactively.
  4. Provide instruction in strategies to develop social-emotional skills for success.
  5. Stay current with various forms of assistive technology to support students in accessing appropriate tools.
  6. Use high expectations and a variety of instructional techniques and media.
  7. Collaborate to plan, teach, and support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
  8. Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure high achievement levels.
  9. Promote communication and collaboration with staff, parents, and professionals.
  10. Perform responsibilities as outlined in the master contract.
Qualifications:
  • Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education in ABS, ASD, EBD, DD, or LD (Dual licensure preferred).
  • Strong general education background.
  • Experience working with diverse cultures, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Evidence of a growth mindset and ability to accelerate growth using a strengths-based model.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience working with children ages birth through 21 in a school setting.
  • Ability to follow directions, facilitate collaboration, and develop IEPs and Behavior Support Plans.
  • Ability to collaborate with nursing staff on health tasks.
  • Experience training and supporting paraprofessionals.
  • Knowledge of best practices in special education, sensory activities, positive behavior support, and routines development.
  • Understanding of comprehensive evaluation processes.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations related to special education.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to travel between locations.
  • Experience working with diverse school communities preferred.

Building Principal and Special Education Coordinator

Compensation / Benefits:

According to contractual agreement. Benefits include medical, dental, life, long-term disability insurance, sick leave, pension plan, retirement savings, and flexible spending account.
