Job summary

Sweetwater Care is seeking a Special Education Teacher to educate elementary and/or secondary students with emotional impairments in specialized programs in Sunnyvale, CA. You will plan an annual syllabus and develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for assigned students, coordinating with parents and staff to reach annual goals.

You will teach daily lessons, supervise 1:1 aides, monitor progress, and ensure compliance with state requirements.

Qualifications

• Four-year college degree in Education or related field; CTC credential required.
• Master’s degree preferred; internships with CTC encouraged.
• At least one year experience with emotionally/behaviorally disturbed students; mental health environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure day-to-day behavior management using available resources.
• Teach daily lessons from approved classroom syllabus.
• Supervise and mentor 1:1s or Educational Assistants.
• Monitor and assess academic and behavioral progress per IEP/EP.
• Collaborate with staff and parents to assess needs and develop corrective measures.
• Plan and supervise all classroom lessons and activities, including field trips.
• Evaluate student performance and issue grades.
• Complete IEPs at year-end or on request.
• Meet and achieve IEP objectives.
• Attend school meetings and career workshops.
