Job summary

Sweetwater Care seeks a Special Education Teacher to educate students with emotional impairments in a specialized school setting in Sunnyvale, CA. You will develop annual classroom syllabuses and IEPs, record progress and coordinate with parents and staff to meet performance goals.

You will supervise 1:1 aides, deliver daily lessons, and contribute to ongoing assessments, meetings, and workshops. A four-year degree and CTC credential are required; a Master’s is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires four-year degree from an accredited institution; CTC credential required; Master’s degree desirable.
• At least one year of demonstrated professional experience working with emotionally and behaviorally disturbed children/adolescents; experience in a combined Special Education-Mental Health setting preferred.
• CTC certification encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Maintain effective classroom behavior management using available resources and staff.
• Teach daily lessons from the approved classroom syllabus.
• Supervise 1:1 aides and Educational Assistants.
• Monitor and assess academic and behavioral progress per IEP/EP.
• Collaborate with staff and parents to assess needs and develop corrective measures.
• Plan and supervise all classroom lessons and field activities.
• Complete IEPs at year end or per parent request.
• Meet student goals and participate in meetings and workshops.
